It doesn't matter much if Giles saves the win. If Cleveland and Oakland are the best teams we can win a series against, this team's got trouble ahead We barely lost games to NY and Arizona even with no offense in most of the games. Gotta start somewhere.

C'mon Correa, you have to make that difficult play, Giles is pitching. GAME I still want my dream trades this season....Astros acquire Abreu, Herrera and Britton....and Paulino and a top OF prospect are promoted....

Giles gets the DP. The save. No self punches to face. Astros win 4-2.

Gotta start somewhere. Losing is losing no matter how it happens. That’s why fans were desperate for even a split against the Yankees. The whole year, there’s only been one impressive series: going 3-1 against Seattle.

In response to both Bear and Sherwin, we have the 3rd most wins in the AL with the best run differential. It's been a frustrating beginning but it's still ultimately a successful beginning.
If this is how we do when slumping and inconsistent, it's a good sign, imo.
Back in 1st place!

It's great to be in 1st place, especially when the team, as a whole, is not playing to its potential....Astros are going to the playoffs, but I am hoping Luhnow is not content with the status quo, and he is active come trade deadline, to pick up a veteran bat and get some bullpen help.

Got some big clutch hits tonight....George and Marwin are swinging the bat well right now. Yuli is heating up. Now,if we can get a DH and get rid of the automatic out named Gattis, we shouuld be in good shape offensively.

Getting a win off Manaea was a good start.

If he is only to be used as a DH, he needs to be gone, and, I think that is what should happen.......DFA him My point was that he will not hit unless he catches as that has been his history. I agree......he should be gone.

It's hard o convince some that DH takes a very different mind-set and skill-set than position players. Not every player with deteriorating fielding skills can just move to DH and be successful. So far, Gattis appears to be one who either can't do it or is adjusting slowly.
But he's running out of time. Even Hinch says they need more out of the position. And that's after putting up with Beltran last season because of what he brought to the clubhouse off the field.

Gattis is on the team as insurance of a sort for Stassi. Stassi is a 27 year old rookie who has never had an extended period of time in the major leagues. So far he is doing well but is only up to 51 at bats. If Stassi can get to 100 at bats and hold to anything close to the first 51 then I am sure Gattis will be gone, unless of course he somehow magically starts to perform.
One would think that given the need to replace Gattis that Stassi would be given more starts to better assess his long term possibilities.

I definitely agree with m240 on giving Stassi more playing time. It not only gives a better basis for assessing his long-term suitability for the team, but it also helps keep McCann rested for the postseason.
Yesterday's game was a case where the matchup vs a lefty like Manaea would probably have been more suitable to use Stassi (who crushes lefties) instead of McCann who has always been somewhat better against righties than lefties).
Against weaker opponents like the A's, Hinch can skate by many times with not seizing on every possible advantage in a game (such as, why was McCann allowed to run for himself in the 9th inning last night?) but when it comes to playing Boston, NYY, and Arizona, one has to try to make the most of every possible advantage in terms of hitting, baserunning, fielding, etc.
Given how well Federowicz and Stubbs are playing, I personally don't see the need to keep Gattis for his ability to play emergency or backup catcher.

So would the Astros stand to lose a lot of female fans if Jake is fired for excessive strikeouts?
