7-8 *2.5 games out of 1st *110 Team OPS+ *97 Team ERA+
I know our offense is far from full strength, but Brantley, Correa, and Tucker have to start doing more to pick up some slack. If CC wants $30 million a year, he needs to be more of a force on this team.
As good of a career as Joe Smith has had, we can't can't wait forever on him regaining form. And please stop using Raley in close games. The guy has never been anything decent.

I think part of the problem is Correa, Brantley, Tucker, and Yuli are sometimes trying to do too much to compensate for the absence of Altuve, Bregman, and Yordan. Dusty bunched them together in the lineup to try to prevent the pitcher from pitching around them and that backfired. Joe Smith should not be on the team......get rid of him. Raley was pretty effective last year and has had a couple of good outings this year. Dusty should have never brought him in yesterday when he had right-handers available. Dusty is doing a pitiful job, but, his GM left him shorthanded by failing to sign a closer and another outfielder which means we are stuck with Straw. We are not getting anything from Straw we didn't get from Marisnick outside of a few extra walks and Straw is much worse defensively.

Pressly has been excellent and we're not losing because of one OFer. The bullpen veterans outside of Stanek and Pressly, and the lack of offense from our stars is the problem.

Like I said yesterday, Dusty is an impediment to winning when the roster is not as stellar. Even a 9-year old playing on an XBox wouldn’t bring in a struggling lefty to face a pesky hitter like Ty France. That home run made the deficit insurmountable based on the disappointing big hitters and the inexperienced call-ups in the lineup.

That home run made the deficit insurmountable based on the disappointing big hitters and the inexperienced call-ups in the lineup. Dusty has always mismanaged his pitching staff. He had a habit of wearing out his pitchers to the point they were ineffective in September and the post-season if his team got there. He showed where his head is in his post-game comments after Friday's game when he emphasized how important it was to get all of the black players in the lineup on JR Day. Taylor Jones was one of the few guys who had produced that night by drawing a walk and getting a hit . So, Dusty brings in Dawson, another black player, to pinch hit for Jones. Dawson grounds into a DP to end the inning. Putting race ahead of winning is deplorable. He has no clue as to how to use this current lineup. He took the Astros job because they had a stacked lineup who could overcome his weaknesses and win. He now has a joke in Myles Straw trying to replace George Springer, whose value to this team is being magnified more by the day. You don't replace an All Star who ignited the team's offense with a guy whose only asset is his speed that he doesn't use. Now, he is without Altuve, Bregman, and Yordan who are three of the top run producers on the team and has no clue how to replace them. For now, he needs to find a way to get Jones and McCormick in the lineup. Bench Straw and play McCormick in CF and let Jones be the DH. Give Stubbs a chance to catch. They are showing Stubbs he is not in their plans. Stubbs should ask for a trade. In short, Dusty Baker will never lead us to a WS title.

That’s a bit of a stretch. I think he wants to see what the kid has got. However, Dusty needs to stop screwing around before it’s time to look at the wild card. It’s that bad right now.

Apparently Dawson passes the eye test with a lot of people. I don't get it, but I doubt the FO would make a player move like that as a "racial move".
However I would certainly like to see more playing time for De Goti and McCormick during this time.

You are probably right on the Dawson thing. I thought it was a bad move to replace Jones because had been one of the few hitters who did anything. Baker needs to be trying to win now so we don't have as much ground to make up when everyone is back. If we ever see Baez and get Framber back, that should be a big boost. If Altuve, Bregman, and Yordan hit as they are capable,we will be fine. I just wish we had a reliable replacement for Straw.

More of De Goti and McCormick and LESS of Toro and Straw. Toro is a GIDP waiting to happen. He is terrible. He will either GIDP or K with a runner on base. I really don't understand why we keep bothering with him. Mayfield was better and the Angels have him.

We could see the return of Bregman, Yordan, and Maldonado tomorrow...........Jose still out.

I am wondering how long these COVID vaccines take to be effective. Our whole organization was supposed to receive vaccines when they returned to Houston from Spring Training. Now, we had five guys in quarantine. I guess I don't understand how the vaccines work, but, I am wondering if all teams received the vaccines, and, if they did, why are some having problems and some haven't.
From what I understand, we should have all players available for the Rockies series with the exception of Altuve. That should help the offense provided Bregman and Yordan hit as they are capable.

So if team reaches a certain percentage of personnel being vaccinated, some of the conditions they need to meet are lowered. Unfortunately the Astros hadn't yet met the minimum percentage and it sounds like those were players marked for being too close to somebody that came back as positive. (Using whatever contact tracing they're doing.) Once they have had a enough negative tests come back after whatever amount of time, they can come back. So probably Altuve either is still showing up as positive, or possibly is showing symptoms despite testing negative, or there were some kind of issues with his test. He was cleared to practice so likely his test got screwed up or he has some type of symptom (maybe a fever) that they need cleared up before MLB will let him be reinstated. The vaccines don't guarantee that you won't get sick. They help lower your chances. Until enough people get vaccinated and enough people are still coming up positive, they'll be stuck with this shitty process.
