5-years $150-200 million...but I'd hesitate to do even that. Between his history of injury and history of disappearing for weeks...I'm not sure he'd even be worth it. I know some of you will squawk about his playoff success, but the 162 games in the season count too.

I'd lean toward 5yrs/$150-200 million, but, I also might be willing to go with whatever it takes. Leon can't replace Carlos and there is NO FA shortstop on the market that is his equal defensively or as a clutch hitter. Yes, he has extended slumps at times, but, he can also get hot and carry the team if others go into a slump. We will have the money to keep him.

Correa being so inconsistent at the plate over his career is why I still think he won't get ten years in free agency, and he won't get $30M per. I think someone will wind up landing him for 9yr/$260M, and it won't be that bad an investment cause his glove would still provide value. If Crane would come back to the table with 8yr/$225M at least we could say we tried

I guess I'm the only one that sees this as a win-win situation for the Astros. Either we keep and he's a very valuable player to have for a while, or we free up more money for other moves and get a nice supplemental pick that we desperately need.
Sure, if we keep him we're likely overpaying him for at least a part of the contract, but there is no arguing that he brings a lot of production when he's on the field, even if he's slumping.

I agree with you. He can take the money, or we can keep the money to use on someone else and get the draft pick for him.

I wonder if this is more PR than real ... Tigers’ President: Team Could Pursue “High-Impact” Players This OffseasonThere’s a rather straightforward line to be drawn between Ilitch’s comments and the upcoming star-studded free agent shortstop class. Each of Corey Seager, Carlos Correa, Marcus Semien, Trevor Story and Javier Báez is slated to hit the open market. I don't think the Tigers are poised to be a serious contender in 2022 unless they make several big purchases on the FA market this winter. In any case, I'd hate to see Al Avila making huge long-term deals.

I would like to make him happy but not at the cost of an eternity deal. Besides, Hinch already has a couple of former Astros. They've been easy on the payroll and excellent. Jake Rogers and Robbie Grossman.

I know some of you will squawk about his playoff success, but the 162 games in the season count too. No way would I offer Correa a dime over $151 million or a day over 5 years. When Altuve signed his extension in March 2018 he was coming off an incredible 4-year run in which he won an MVP award, 4 silver slugger awards, a gold glove, made 4 all-star teams and accumulated 25.1 WAR. At the time he signed his extension he was already signed for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. His extension added 5 years to his deal. He was paid a $21 million bonus for years 2018-2019 plus $26 million per year for years 2020-2024. Basically he signed a deal that paid him $151 million for an additional 5 years. Correa has done nothing that comes close to what Altuve has accomplished yet he apparently thinks he is entitled to be paid more than Altuve. If he won’t sign for 5 years $151 million or less, piss on him. By the way, have any of you been paying attention to the year our old nemesis Marcus Semien is having for Toronto? His numbers put Correa in the shade. Semien will be a free agent next season. I know he is 31 years old, but I would sign him to a 3 year deal in a heartbeat.

Man, I don't know what I would do or how long I'd do it for. I could say 8/240 and look like a genius if Correa puts up a couple of MVPs and finally whacks 30 HR while hitting .300. But a bigger part of me thinks Carlos isn't ever going to stay healthy or reach his considerable potential. I still think I'd do 8/240, but only because he's still young and the going rate for an all-star caliber SS will probably be 45 million before the contract is over. But then again I'd probably be wrong. Or right. I'm confused.

This is his contract year, seemingly the best it's going to ever be; and for a while, he was looking elite. Now, he has had a big stretch of being below average at the plate. Olpapa had a point, Altuve production warranted a great pay raise. Carlos past production is not near as good as Altuve, so it's being based on potential? Do you greatly overpay based on potential as opposed to previous production?

Do you think there's going to be a vast difference of how Carlos and his agent value himself over what the Astros do? Of course, AEB the contract they already offered him. Considering his production up to that point, the final offer of 5 years/125M was not bad. Based on 2021, factoring his recent decline in production and FA going rate, I think at best Astros offer 5 years/$150M with a 6th year option. Of course this can change, he can start producing again, or come playoffs time, he kicks into gear

Do you greatly overpay based on potential as opposed to previous production? if he doesn't get back to the level of production we saw before this strange "sickness" they said he had, he probably needs to lower his contract demands, but, don't expect his agent to go for it. The choice the Astros have to make is whether they give Correa enough to keep him or end up with a SS that is not close to his level defensively nor capable of being a better run producer. He has proven to be clutch in September and the post-season. If he can do that again, he will get close to what he wants. We have nobody in our farm system to replace him. Guys like Baez and Story will be available, but, neither is as good as Correa.

There is no way of knowing how he would react to it. He knows we need him, and, I think he likes playing here and with Altuve and the rest. What happens with him will be the key to the off season.
