That was his only good move in the off season, and, I doubt if Click had much of an influence on Michael deciding to return. Why does it matter if Click had influence on him re-signing? He did it and that’s all that matters. The point is that I don't think Click should be credited with influencing him to re-sign. Yes, he got the contract signed, but, that was the extent of his contribution.

No, but he wasted money signing him, but, he didn't know it was a waste at the time. The only FA reliever he signed who has worked out to any extent is Stanek. Money is no big deal. This team can’t afford lopsided trades. Maton better work out. I'd hardly refer to the trade of Straw for Maton as a one-sided deal. True, was a young outfielder who was making progress, but, we knew we had Jake Meyers ready in Sugar Land, plus we had McCormick. Click wanted Maton, saw the chance to get him, and made the deal. I think we maybe could have gotten more for Straw, but, now that we've seen Meyers for a few games, I understand the move.

It's too soon on the Maton/Straw deal to judge. Maton hasn't shown much yet, but he has some encouraging strikeout numbers the last couple years and two more years of club control.
I liked Straw and he's having a very solid season, but it's become apparent that we have decent OF depth...where we do not have decent bullpen depth.

Chas is like the RH version of Colby Rasmus at the plate And if Rasmus is your 4th or 5th OFer, you're in pretty good shape. That comparison is not being fair to Chas. After all, this is his first season in the majors. Rasmus sucked after he was in the league for years. Chas will more than likely improve. He and Meyers are both solid defensively and possess more power than Straw while also having the good speed.

If we got that level of production from a prospect that most of us hadn't even heard of before the postseason last year, I'd say we did pretty well with him.

Unless I’m misunderstanding what I’m reading at the Baseball Reference link you posted, BR shows Raley signed through 2021 with his earliest year for arb eligibility to be 2023. Good eye!Yeah, seeing his $2MM salary this year I was thinking he had already gone through an arb year. But you're right. 2023 will be his first arb. I guess the extra mill and a half was like a signing bonus or something. Maybe he'll be a minimum wage player if the Astros keep him?

Raley is a free agent after this year. I can't remember the exact particulars, but it had something to do with the fact that he was picked up on a free agent contract after returning from Korea. Somehow he is not controllable like a standard arbitration-eligible player is. That said, I bet they resign him. Hmmm. If you can find a link to what you've read, that would add a lot of info to the conversation.

When I think of Colby Rasmus I always remember him allowing Prince Fielder to score all the way from first base on a ball hit down the LF line. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

I don't see Chas improving much. Average hit tool, average power, average speed, average defense... He ambushed some pitchers and hit some dingers when he first came up, so it seems like people believe he's a hot prospect. The league took notice and he's hit just two bombs in his last 37 games. I'm not saying he can't improve, but I would bet on it. Certainly not to the point of crowning him Brantley's replacement. Not to mention Brantley will be 35 when his contract is up. Why are we assuming we won't sign him again for more? If anyone is going to beat the aging curve at the plate, it's a guy with his skills. Look at what Yuli has done.

Look at what Yuli has done. I am not assuming we won't re-sign Brantley because we may. As for Chas having average speed, I think that has already been disproven. According to those on the coaching staff in the broadcasters, he is actually faster than Straw, who they thought had blazing speed. I'd put money on Meyers being the better of the two in the long run. I think it's still too early to know how much Chas or Jake will improve. Chas has to correct that swing before becoming a consistent hitter.
