This seems like a lie. Although, it would be cool if true. maybe it was Verlander who said I hate you bitches (not Springer)

I am a fan of MM...Super hard worker...I remember in the late 90s, going to buy furniture...He was still there late a night, at the front table signing basketballs...Always there to help the City, when it goes through hardships..Huge philanthropist...Huge Houston team sports fans....Both he and his wife (she owns the West Side Club) support autistic kids....IYDN- my oldest son has autism

This seems like a lie. Although, it would be cool if true. I guess it would be cool ... or totally uncool, depending on how you look at it. Imho, the players shouldn't have even been in a position to voice an opinion (to which I agree) about this. If the Front Office suggested Verlander throwing out the first pitch, shame on them.

I don't know how I feel about this if it's true.
On one hand, sure. Verlander hasn't been a part of the team for quite a while and doesn't seem like he's really been involved in supporting them. If that's TRUE, I totally get it.
However, this is the same pitcher that several of them "literally loved" in 2017. It was his dominance in the ALCS that helped get us to that WS. Sure, we had a great young core of position players, but his arrival signaled a turning point in our pitching and he was obviously a leader in the clubhouse from the get-go. While I don't think they needed a boost, I think it would have been cool to see him throw out the first pitch.
I also agree with JIT that the players need to stay in their lanes. It's not all about them. It's about the fans. And I think most fans would have loved to see JV.

I doubt a single player ever knows who is set to throw out the first pitch

My heart and Prayers go out to you. I don't want to get into a big Polictical thing but the autism rate in boys is out of control and I blame Big Pharma. CDC was forced to take off of their Web Site that Vaccines don't cause Autism.

Not the first time I've heard whispers about JV and perceived "character flaws", so to speak. I once read an article that basically accused him of being self-centered and not a contributor to charitable causes. Hard to know if there was any truth to it or if it was a hatchet job.
I don't recall seeing him in the Astros dugout this year. If the team indeed asked that he not throw out the first pitch then that's a bigger indictment than a sportswriters article.

If he hasn't shown the team any support, apparently he is not interested in being here. Open the door for him and tell him to haul ass.

That part was a hatchet job. winsforwarriors.org/And in 2020, he and Kate announced Justin would be donating his entire MLB paychecks that year to various charities ...
Regarding being in the dugout, I dunno. But I reckon unless the Astros had some plan for how he could do something to make a meaningful impact during the season, the best thing he could do would be just stay out of the way and not be a distraction. And as I said earlier, if the Astros front office suggested JV should throw the first pitch, shame on them.

Hello everyone. Not a stranger, but will be a probable fairly infrequent guests here, after pretty much giving up this game since early 2020. ALDS Game 1 was my first inning of viewing in the entire past 2 years. Strange being an uniformed bystander after being intimately familar with all aspects of this team for over 50 years. The pain of betrayal by this organization is only now starting to wear, and I am still damned mad. And Crain? I wish the MMP train would accidentlly jump the track and fall on him.
Since there is about a 1/3 of this team that are total strangers? I'll probably be more of a listener than a particpant. But... still plenty of good folks here, and my best wishes to them.
