Astros are 1-16 when trailing after 7 innings. Major major difference between this season and last.

So what happened with the Altuve HR?

So what happened with the HR? It ricocheted off the weird bottom padding of the bullpen wall in right center and jumped into the seats in right field. I get why they said it was a double despite it not hitting the fielder or the ground. It’s a coin flip call really.

I wonder what the letter of the applicable MLB rule and the MMP ground rule is.

So he didn't fairly hit it over the wall. I'm fine with that then.
The rule should have always been over the fence or no HR.

It's happened before that the ball bounced off an outfielder's head and into the stands, and that has gone as a HR.

Generally, any weird play that a fielder can’t reach is a ground rule double.

I’ve seen Alou hit a ball that landed on the ledge of the left field scoreboard and bounced into the Crawfords. It was ruled a home run. I don’t have a problem with that. Altuve’s was five feet short.

It's happened before that the ball bounced off an outfielder's head and into the stands, and that has gone as a HR. To me that’s the same as an outfielder jumping to catch a ball that would’ve been a double, crashing into the wall, and dropping it on the other side of it. That’s also a home run.

The ruling is essentially that the wall below the yellow line was in the field of play like the ground so it is like a ball bouncing over the wall. Bouncing off a player is what makes the others HRs.
BTW, Bouncing over the wall used to be a HR in a bygone era.

No. Where did you post? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Dunno, maybe on this thread. I went to the Proboards support forum to ask a question. He answered my question, and then said The guy’s handle was something like dddtfan. I always thought what that stood for was Dave Dombrowski Detroit Tigers fan because I think he was a fan of Dombrowski. I remember on August 31st last year we had a thread going concerning the 8/31 trade deadline and rumors that the Astros and Tigers were in talks about Verlander right up until...and after midnight. Dddtfan was right in the middle of that discussion with us. If I recall correctly he wanted us to get JV. He is a nice guy. I went to the old mlb.com Tigers message board and talked baseball with him and some of the other Tigers fans in the offseason. They were very civil to me over there.

Bortaz..... noticed that there are 11 guests right now, and 190 within the last 24 hours. Is there some external advertising drawing in this attention? Hope we get a few new members along the way. It may be the recent format change where you can read posts while logged on as guest. I like the change; it was a little annoying having to log on just to read everything if you didn't necessarily have any thing to say. Yesterday's game being a prime example

If Altuve rode the short bus, everyone would have clamored for it to be a HR...it would have been a PR nightmare to be otherwise....If Gattis is going to stay, we have to start twisting his ABs to our advantage....

It's one of those extremely rare things that become fun to say, long in the future, that we were there or we saw it live when Altuve did that. It happens so rarely that we probably don't need to get too worked up about whether it should be a HR. Nonetheless debating it for fun is cool My main concern is that the interpretation of the rule should be consistent from park to park and from year to year. This might be something they could clarify in next year's edition of the MLB rule book.

Interesting development.
Hope Reddick's wasn't a serious spider bite.
would be nicer to think a spare reliever is going on DL

But he was in yesterday’s game. Means it would start today. Not retroactive.

I hope it means Fisher to AAA It will never happen and most here will disagree, but, I would trade Keuchel to an NL contender for a bat and move McHugh or Peacock into the rortation. We won't re-sign him so deal him for a player we need.
