Also what do you think MJ Melendez C of the Royals will cost? Seems blocked by Perez with his extension and could fix some issues at the postion to spell the end of Castro. Hits left handed and is ++ on def. Bat is decent aswell. Won't be a black hole like it is as we speak. Stop reading Climbing Tal’s Hill. Speaking of Climbing Tal's Hill... There is no Tal's Hill anymore. They should change their name.

JV is on pace for almost the exact same record (21-6) and ERA+ (179), as well as leading the league in WHIP, that he had in 2019 when he won the CY. Currently 7-2 with a 175 ERA+.

Yeah I lost a bet on that, cost me a Coca Cola. That was probably big money back in the day.

I hope they do re-sign him. Bortaz is right, McCullers can't be misconstrued by the Astros as being their Axe, if JV leaves...

Since it's opening day, it seems like time for this. Might be a stretch calling a thread started by an Invader From the North "Official" but whatev. Let's go Astros! Damn it, Yankee. Don't jinx our season! You Guys should know that People from the East don't consider mid westerners Yankee's. Them be fly over boys and girls and certainly not Yankee's

This team has been very mediocre this month so far, and the first half of the month is the light part of the schedule. We're in for a losing month if we piddle around .500 against these teams we're supposed to beat.

Was that worse than Angels 1986? In 1964 there were no playoffs to get into the World Series. At the end of the regular season the winner of the National League played the winner of the American League in the World Series. Philadelphia had been in first place in the NL since July. They had a 6 1/2 game lead with 12 games left to play. They then went on a 10-game losing streak and finished second. It was bad, but could not have happened to a more deserving city.

We're in for a losing month if we piddle around .500 against these teams we're supposed to beat. People look at the great record and are unconcerned, but it seems unsustainable. Too often the hitters barely do anything and basically ask for a quality start from their starting pitchers every time out. It’s not a recipe for postseason success.

Somebody mentioned Melendez from KC the other day and I have done a little looking at him. He really does make good sense for us and Kansas City needs pitching. I would give them Urquidy and a pitching prospect not named Brown, they can take their pick, all day long. This deal would make sense all the way round. Then first base becomes our biggest issue.

What would you think of trading for Trey Mancini? I just don’t see the team trading for a first baseman and putting Yuli on the bench or sending him to another team. Mancini can play first base and both corner outfield positions. It would be easy enough to give Mancini plenty playing time. He could spell Yuli at first base some and play LF or RF with Tucker sliding over to CF or he could come off the bench and pinch hit.

I'm curious if he's still interested

Thinking his different swings can all be A-swings is probably related to his mechanics being off

I continue to be firmly in the "I do not want Urquidy to pitch playoff games" camp. He has average velocity, no out pitch, doesn't miss bats, and doesn't generate grounders. He's Bielak with better command. EDIT: I take it back. Bielak actually gets some grounders and swings and misses.

He could spell Yuli at first base some and play LF or RF with Tucker sliding over to CF or he could come off the bench and pinch hit. I actually don't expect them to make offensive upgrades, unless I have them pegged wrong and they're actually willing to do something at catcher. Or barring a major injury forcing the issue somewhere, of course. Despite everything, this team is 3rd in the Majors in position player WAR, behind the Mets and Dodgers. Yes, we're actually slightly ahead of the Yankees (though they might pass us tonight with us being off). We're 3rd in homers, 5th in ISO, 6th in wRC+, 6th in K rate, 7th in BB rate. Jake Meyers is coming back pretty soon, and I'm sure the team is expecting improvements from Yuli and Bregman. Something important doesn't get talked about; this team is by far the best defensive team in the Majors. Houston is at +14.2 DEF rating on Fangraphs. Cleveland is second with +11.4. Only D-Backs, Rays, A's, and Padres are also above-average. If you start messing with the lineup, you're also messing with the defense, too. If you want to appreciate the defense this year, just go compare our pitchers' ERAs to their xFIPs; almost everyone is due regression. Every member of the rotation except Urquidy has an xFIP that is at least half a run worse than their ERA, and JV and Garcia are both a full run worse. The bullpen isn't much better; Abreu is the only guy who isn't significantly worse than his ERA says. Stanek has an 0.95 ERA and a 4.35 xFIP. It's 1.99 vs. 3.28 for Montero, 3.07 and 3.89 for Pressly, 3.04 and 5.00(!) for Maton. Regression is going to hurt...unless, of course, they leave the defense alone and the elite defense keeps saving us. I'm betting they leave the offense alone and, if anything, add pitching. I'd like a starter, but I could also see them going reliever instead, especially if they call up Hunter Brown.

First three Twins batters (including Correa) went back-to-back-back off of Gerrit Cole. Buxton got him a second time later. 7 ER in 2.1 IP for Cole tonight LOL.
