Since it's opening day, it seems like time for this. Might be a stretch calling a thread started by an Invader From the North "Official" but whatev.
Let's go Astros!

Living in the North, that word is okay ... unless we're talkin' baseball. Then it's the ultimate in vulgarity. Youse guize r brootal.

Am I the only one who finds it refreshing to have a seemingly humble rookie at shortstop busting his butt to prove himself, rather than a guy who thinks he is the greatest thing since sliced bread and indispensable to the team?

I've always been a fan of rookies. If they display a strong work ethic and don't showboat, even more so.

It’s better than Siri, I guess. He hasn’t done anything and is a total cheerleader.

The contributions from all the young guys so far have been fantastic.
It's really just Maldonado and Baez who look useless.

Still kind of sad we dealt him. I like Maton but relievers aren't too hard to find. 3 WAR centerfielders are a lot rarer.

I like him but speed guys with zero power and a hesitancy to steal have limited value. He stole 30 last year..... It seemed, he got better after he was traded...... Not a power guy by any means..... However, he would be a great lead off guy if he can get on base at least 35%+ of the time.... I think he's going to be a .275/.365/.365 hitter.... And if he's leading off, he should be getting 40 plus steals and 90 plus runs.

Straw was a slightly better defender, but even with his stolen bases, he wasn't as valuable on offense. All things considered, I think they're roughly equal. And once healthy, I think Meyers' potential is even higher. WAR is cumulative so to compare seasons, you need to take plate appearances and innings played into account. In 2021 Chas had just a tick more than half as many PAs and innings played as Myles. And his WAR was definitely more than half.

If Straw continues a .340+ OBP, 30ish SBs, and good defense in CF, he'll easily be worth that money.

What do you think of Pena so far at SS? I didn't see any Astros games yet, just the highlight reels. But so far, so good. Altuve says Pena's gonna be a superstar. Who am I to argue? Carlos who?

I like Meyers the most of our CF’s. What do you think of Pena so far at SS? I like him a lot. He has a quickness that Correa didn’t have and a good enough arm. I felt like Correa wasn’t aggressive enough on defense for certain plays because he leaned on that arm too much. This kid could be special.
