I feel like McCullers' contract is pretty fair for both sides. When he's healthy he pitches to the quality of an ace, and ace pitchers are making $25-40 a year. But since he doesn't stay healthy, he isn't getting paid that much.

Stud performance from Hunter Brown tonight. Just 3 earned runs allowed all month. Currently at 2.01 ERA for the season.

(EL PASO, Texas) – Behind the strongest outing this season from right-hander Hunter Brown, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas 7-0 on Thursday night.
Brown struck out a season-high 10 batters across a season-high seven scoreless innings without allowing a walk.
The Houston Astros’ No. 1 prospect, per MLBPipeline, lowered his ERA on the season to 2.01, ranking second in the Pacific Coast League. He leads the league with 56 strikeouts, is second with a .200 opponent’s batting average and fifth with a 1.14 WHIP.

Sugar Land won today 17-14.
Sadly Korey Lee was just 1-for-7 with 3 K, and Leon took an 0-for-4 with a couple of walks. Lee is hitting just .201.
On the bright side Enoli Paredes was one of only two pitchers on either team who didn't allow a run. He got the save with a perfect 9th inning, striking out two batters, and now has a 0.47 ERA and a 12.3 K/9 in 19 innings.

IIRC Diaz was actually ranked as one of the best defensive catching prospects in the league back when he was in Low-A, per Baseball America. Slightly old for being in AA still, but definitely a legit, well-rounded prospect. |

With Brown stepping up I still say any trade for a bat starts with one of our current starters. With McCullers making more progress my expectation is that Click will pull the trigger in June. The main question I have is for who. Didn’t have a great start last time out. |

#19 prospect Jordan Brewer and Billy’s boy Will Wagner were promoted to AA Corpus Christi yesterday. I’m hoping Yanier Diaz gets promoted to AAA soon.

Diaz could prove to be the better player acquired out of the Straw for Maton and Diaz deal. Maton doesn't look comfortable/confident on the mound. He needs that Eye of the Tiger....Too bad that Russian killed Creed. |

Emmanuel Valdez off to a nice start at AAA Sugar Land. Through 5 innings Sugar Land leads 3-1. Valdez is 2-2 with 2 solo home runs in his first 2 AAA at bats. Korey Lee has a solo home run as well. Hunter Brown went 5 innings, struck out 9, walked 1 and allowed 1 run.

Ashville scored 19 runs tonight. Nine of them were driven in by Cristian Gonzalez, our #11 ranked prospect. He was 4-for-5 (single, double, two 3-run bombs)
He's a SS, good range and hands, and a cannon for an arm. Legit pop as well. If he can hit more consistently he could break out as a stud prospect.

Through 3 innings for Sugar Land tonight Emanuel Valdez is 2-2 with 2 home runs. He now has 4 home runs in 27 plate appearances since being promoted to AAA.
Jake Meyers is 1-2 with a home run.

It's complementary. The guy he interviewed is Peter Zimmerman and he's saying this is why he's doing better. He's drawing a lot of walks and it's leading to some eye popping other numbers (OPS over 1.000). |
