Emanuel Valdez has been in the Astros organization for a long time. He was signed as a 16-year-old out of the Dominican Republic on July 2, 2015 and has remained in the Astros organization ever since. He has played 2B, SS and 3B in his minor league career. He seems to be coming into his own this season. He was Texas League Player of the Month for May this season before being promoted to AAA. So far he has owned PCL pitching.

The absolute best thing we can hope for, is that Whitley gets hot and has a few amazing outings in the minor leagues so that he has SOME kind of value in a trade package. Send him, Chas, and another to Baltimore for Mancini.

I think Mancini offers overall offensive depth at potentially multiple positions if needed. He could play some LF or RF in a pinch, he can play 1B, he can DH/pinch hit, etc. The bottom line is that we need more offense going into the postseason. I know there is a lot of pride in our defense as a team, but we're having trouble scoring runs. Mancini gives us the ability to do that if we need it, or if we lose a 1B or corner OFer to injury (you never know with Brantley). Besides, I still say Tucker would be at least an average defensive CFer. You could potentially do something like this: Altuve 2B Brantley RF Bregman 3B Yordan LF Tucker CF Mancini DH Pena SS Gurriel 1B Catcher Now you're looking at a team that, even if Yuli continues to struggle, is 6 deep (plus Bregman who can at least walk...). Meyers can be brought for in defensive purposes late in games as necessary. Siri can pinch run and nothing else.

Meyers and Jones both went 0-5 for Sugar Land yesterday. On the bright side, Korey Lee hit a home run.

I’m still wondering when Yanier Diaz will get promoted to AAA. The guy leads the entire Astros organization in hits with 77. The next closest is Alvarez with 66. Diaz has almost twice as many hits (77) as strikeouts (40) in 244 ABs. BA .316, OBP .367, SLG .504, OPS .871. What’s left to prove at AA?

He can be hitting but if he isn't showing enough behind the dish that can slow things down. They might also not want to have him and Lee having to split time behind the dish. Just speculation, not claiming to know for sure the reasoning.

So I guess Diaz can get 150 or so at bats at AAA before the trade deadline. Or maybe 100 and 50 in the bigs to see what we got before the deadline.

Maybe it will put some pressure on Lee and light a fire under his ass. Lee seems to be a low average with pop guy. He’ll fit right in.

I am thinking Diaz, if his defense is good,is the way to go. I would trade Urquidy, Lee , Not ten prospect and Castro for Contreras and Robertson Why would the other team do that trade? Lee still has draft capital (drafted earlier) and prospect ranking value (been high as number one rated Astros prospect)... He is cheap and many years of control.... Urquidy, prior to this year, has been very good, last year his WHIP was under 1.00. Plus he's under control for three more seasons.... prospect X, even not in the top 10 Astros prospect ranking will have value.... Castro will help them finish out the year at the catcher position... He is a seasoned vet, to help out their pitching staff.. Cubs are a team that needs to make trades, they need to rebuild.... Cheaper, younger players with many years of control are what they're going to be after.. Both Contreras and Robertson are pending free agents. At the trade deadline, the accquiring team would only have two more months of their service...

Maybe it will put some pressure on Lee and light a fire under his ass. Diaz is turning out to be the better player of the two we acquired for Straw...I know Maton has the spin rate the Astros covet, but as I said before, when you watch him pitch, he doesn't look confident. Like he doesn't want to be there... Maybe I am old school, but I want the relievers to be nasty, mean SOBs...

I would trade Urquidy, Lee , Not ten prospect and Castro for Contreras and Robertson FWIW, Diaz has thrown out 34% of runners attempting to steal (23 of 68) in his minor league career and 33% of runners attempting to steal (12 of 36) this season.

Believe it or not, I’m not big on us needing offense from catcher instead of a spot like CF, but what Maldonado and Castro are doing at the plate warrants some sort of upgrade. My top pick for an upgrade is in the OF to help Tucker and Brantley and to alleviate pressure from Peña, but if Contreras or someone similar is the only player available for the right price, I’m cool with the move.
Just keep in mind when wanting offense from a catcher - if they hit really well, they’ll probably be shifted to a different position to avoid wear and tear on the tires.
