Kemp is making contact. He is going to give Fisher a run. This type of competition should be incentivizing for Fisher. I see no reason Fisher can't stay in the minors for a while

Delino DeShields made a 3-base fielding error vs KC today did he try to catch a liner with his face?Allowed a ball to skip by him in center by playing too aggressively.

We talk about the pitching staff a lot, but the Astros are also leading MLB in fielding percentage at .992.

Also, the Astros have thrown out fully 1/3 of wanna-be base stealers (8 of 24). Way higher than last year's rate.
Only 15 errors on the season so far. Compare to 47 for the Rangers.

I guess Clevinger was nothing special today. Yeah it will be curious to see if Bauer has any pre-game or in-game antics this series. Maybe he will fly his drone during pre-game.

Collin McHugh has the highest ERA+ of anyone on the team by double Verlander. 772 going into the game. What is ERA+?

No but due to massive consumption of Diet Coke over the years, I have a massively stretched out bladder. Diet Coke or Coke Zero...which one wins? I believe they changed Coke Zero to get rid of some of the aspartame twanginess. It's call Coke No Sugar or some shit.

On Deshields:
"With a runner on and two out in the second inning on Thursday, Royals' No. 9 hitter Ramon Torres hit a routine chopper up the middle off Rangers starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx that suddenly turned into two runs when center fielder Delino DeShields let the ball roll through his legs.
The ball bounced nearly to the wall, allowing Ryan Goins to score easily from first. Torres raced around third and dove headfirst to the plate and just beat the tag from Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos." - mlb.com

And Altuve is officially back in his slump. opposing pitchers are inducing a lot of soft contact against him based on everything I've seen. He should take more walks

This season's team ERA+ of 163 far exceeds that of any other Astros season. Some notable others include:
1981 - 124 1980 - 106 1971 - 108 1986 - 114 1979 - 111 2017 - 97

He should take more walksIf he just bunts, he would probably reach 1B on an infield hit 40 or 50% of the time. That can be one strategy he can use to throw opposing fielders into disarray in terms of how to play him; and also rattle pitchers by getting on base so much. When he GIDP with 2 men on today, even a sac bunt would have moved men over.

Watch the heater in the 1st sequence, then belt it after spotting it 2nd time around there's several things he can do based on his talent and he seems to be doing none of it right now

Not long ago, the Astros were fourth in the AL West in terms of Team OPS. Suddenly, they are now in first place at .745. They'll have to challenge the .800 level to catch up to the Red Sox and Yankees, but it might not be necessary considering that those teams will have a hard time hitting .800 OPS when they face the Astros staff.

Question of the day: When does Bortaz start a Jake Marisnick Appreciation thread? Place a few pillows all around you, then hold your breath until I make that thread. You see, the deal is...I'm the only one who is smart enough to know Jake will be right back to striking out 50% of the time (and getting picked off first base) tomorrow.

yeah but this is his slash line when he's up with a runner at 2nd
.211/.318/.316
he should assume at this point given all the hardware he's won, that pitchers aren't gonna give him anything to hit in that situation

I'd like to see him stop leaping across the plate to swing at pitches that are nearly in the on deck circle.

Which is fun. But it's very hollow if he doesn't show more power or drive in more runs with it. He has a very good avg with RISP but singles don't drive in a lot of runs. And he isn't really walking either, so he's getting on-base less than he has since 2013...when he was a below average offensive player. I still think he'll come out of it (he has been too good for too many seasons now to just lose it in his prime), but it is a little concerning at this time.

MLB Network said that the Astros are estimated to have taken away 12 extra hits by virtue of defensive shifts alone this year.

Maybe they should move him down for a bit (like 5th) or something. I don't know. He's obviously frustrated and trying hard, but somebody needs to talk to him about his approach
Maybe focus on taking everything to right field to force him to be patient.
Again, it's still an okay season comparatively... It's just not an Altuve season.
