Better hope for a diamond in the rough, I guess.

I have a feeling they will draft a prep player.

Our top priority should be a catcher There are a couple of high school catchers projected to go at the end of the 1st round.

I read that Luhnow is indicating a "best player available" rather than focusing on a position with this low a draft pick. I guess he's looking for someone to drop to them that they have rated higher.

Maybe it's just me but I have a lot of confidence in our FO. Seems that regardless of where we draft in the first round, we get a guy who is going to help us in the future. Of course, Aiken and Appel withstanding.

We need to stop ignoring the catching position..We need to develop a good, young catcher.

Well we have Stassi for 4 more years if we want him, and that guy in AAA. Can't remember his name right now. But yeah, wouldn't hurt to get another catcher if there is one worthy of that pick.

Last top catcher we drafted was Biggio and he we moved him to other positions, which was the right move.

Stubbs? That's the one. Hitting .360+ in AAA. And while he won't maintain that level, he hit pretty well in 2016 also. Probably won't be an all-star or anything, but he appears to be able to work walks and has a good arm.

If Stubbs can maintain anything in MLB that is close to his milb numbers on throwing out runners attempting to steal, and can hit .250ish, I’ll take that. I have read that he works well with, and is well liked by the pitchers. Stubbs is not a big guy. I don’t know that he could hold up physically to catching 135-140 games a year, but if he can put up anywhere near his milb numbers, I think he and Stassi would make a good platoon at the position.

Here is something crazy.....in his minor league career he has stolen 31 bases and been caught stealing only three times. He hasn’t been caught stealing at all in 18 attempts at the AA and AAA levels. He has; however, thrown out over 50% of the runners attempting to steal on him in his minor league career. I haven’t researched it, but I’m gonna guess he is one of the few catchers who has accomplished that.

Stassi appears ready to take over as #1 at this time

Well we drafted Castro more recently than that. BUST Eh, we got some above average production for a catcher from him for a couple years, and average production for a reasonable cost for a couple more. Plus one all star season. Not great but I couldn't call him a bust.

Castro had his brief fleeting moments, but he wasn’t good enough. I’m not putting the total blame on him because he didn’t ask to be drafted so highly, but it is what it is.
