Hey, is Montero’s ERA in the 4’s yet? He has had an ERA under 3 for 4 out of 6 months this year.

He did win the World Series last year... I don’t like Dusty and a lot of others don’t either, but the logic that the Astros won in spite of him is as asinine as saying Click only succeeded because of Luhnow. Give credit where it’s due. Dusty deserves credit for last year, but there's several times this year you typed he should quit

Dusty handled the postseason well last year. I have my doubts about him duplicating that this year.
I think we'll see a lot of what we've already seen with lineups: Superior younger players being benched for veterans.

Dusty deserves credit for last year, but there's several times this year you typed he should quit I never wanted him back, but I give him full credit for last postseason. He captained only two losses. One was Verlander blowing a 5-0 lead and the other was Lance pooping his pants in Philly. My main criticisms of Dusty and areas that are indefensible: 1. Benching Chas. 2. Playing Maldonado. 3. Using Maton as a fireman reliever.

False equivalency. How much credit Dusty deserves isn't a given just because the Astros won the WS. Whether he was instrumental in the Astros success or the Astros won in spite of him being at the helm is a worthy debate. Personally, I think he's average at-best. YMMV.

Yes, "dumb" is too simple. It's more willfully ignorant and set in his outdated ways. He did win the World Series last year... His team did. What was it about Dusty specifically that helped Yordan hit those amazing clutch bombs? And Pena? What did Dusty do to make Garcia and Brown throw those clutch shutout innings against the Mariners? What did Dusty do to get Michael Brantley to give the speech that fired up the offense when they were on the brink against Philly? Short playoff series can go either way. They're barely a reflection of the actual player's talent because of the smallness of the sample size, much less the manager's contributions. Look at what's happening in these three games we're in right now. If Dusty won the World Series, is Dusty losing this series?

He used optimal lineups, used the right pitchers when needed, and only had two losses from two of his most important pitchers. He used García at the right times and benched the overrated Stanek and Urquidy during last season’s run. We didn’t agree with it, but it worked out for the best. You can’t have it both ways by saying it’s his fault when they lose and also say he’s not the reason when they win. This is the disconnect that drives me crazy about the fans. Hinch blew two series with his incessant need to put his boy Will Harris in the game. You could argue that each team Dusty led in the postseason played above their heads.

I just don’t think he is the main reason why they lose. At the end of the day, the players have to do the jobs they were hired to do. They had Altuve, Peña, Bregman, Álvarez, and Abreu the first two games against the A’s. Failing to destroy the opposing pitcher with those hitters is inexcusable and not on Dusty. He doesn’t ask his pitchers to suck either. The reason why I bring up the postseason is because that’s an area in which he managed well, but fans are reluctant to allude to that because they don’t like the man because he’s not Hinch.

I don't like Dusty because he is not in the Top 5 or maybe even 10 of Managers. Second I don't care for his attitude towards people that look like me. Here he is had a Top Job as a Manager and still has that attitude.

Dusty is, and has been forever, an average manager. He was a good player with a level head which allowed him to get into managing.
He was never special but never horrible which allowed him to keep getting jobs. Longevity gave people the impression that it made him a good manager when, in reality, he is the Harold Baines of managers.
He deserves credit for inheriting a PR nightmare and helping to right the ship from a reputation standpoint. But he also inherited a ton of talent and a good GM in Click (imo).
I think he did a good job not screwing up that talent in the postseason last year, which some managers do. But, he should have retired.
He has stayed on too long and is letting his emotions take over his decision-making. We'll see if that changes in the postseason...if it doesn't, it may not be a deep run.

He should’ve retired but was offered money to come back. Most people would’ve done the same.

So in other words, he did his job right and didn't screw up, and I have to give him credit for it? No. I don't give bonus points for not screwing up. The problem is that in-game managing is not hard. Many fans could do it well. It's one of those things that you should do right all the time, so you don't get credit just for doing it right, and you should get trashed for doing it wrong.

Hinch lost with the greatest team we’ve ever had. He was a better manager than Dusty. So yeah, Dusty should get praise for surpassing his mediocrity and winning last season. In the postseason, he pushed the right buttons based on his knowledge of the players, namely the pitching staff. He knew to use guys like Stanek, Urquidy, and even García less. He let Lance die out there to give his pitchers more rest. They ended up throwing a no-hitter the next night. He managed a victory in 18 innings against a hot Seattle Mariners squad. He led a sweep of the Yankees. I don’t know what else he needed to do to get credit for a good job in your eyes. No one is perfect. You don’t have to be Casey Stengel to be recognized for doing a decent job. I don’t get how you can be so harsh, yet you’re up in arms over Forrest Whitley being called a loser.

Hard to believe the Blue Jays tanked in a four-game series at home. Another year for George and Cole to be on the outside looking in, but they have their millions.
