Owning a team is a business. They have to make decisions that are good for the business. It's not as easy "well he's rich and can spend if he wants to". There's business money and personal money, and they're two very different things.
Edit: And again, he spends a lot on the team. Just because he doesn't sign these mega deals, doesn't mean he isn't spending a lot of money. Do you want mega deals or smart deals? And in the end, the results matter most. And he has gotten great results.

And he has gotten great results. Super easy to spend other people’s money. I really don’t GAS if he spends $3M or $300M on payroll. Just win. I do believe we’ll re-sign Tucker but if not life goes on. The sky was projected to fall when Springer (my fave) left and again when Correa hit the bricks. Since departing George has been hurt an awful lot and Correa has proven he isn’t worth the dollars he was seeking (and may have to prematurely retire). So I think I’ll put my faith in the owner who has overseen us go to 4 WS during his tenure. At least until he’s proven himself a numbskull. |

Bregman and Tucker announced as GG finalists. Surprisingly, despite a significantly higher defensive WAR than all of the finalists outside of Volpe, Pena is not one of the top-3 finalists.
There is also now a utility fielder GG award. Which I expect Dubon would be a finalist for...
