I think he's just hyping the guy. Give him confidence and maybe get other teams thinking he could have some value in a trade. I think he'd already have some trade value. Good stuff, pitched well in AAA the last two years with a huge strikeout rate, and still has all six years of club control left. I imagine a bunch of teams would have him penciled in for a Major League role right now if we were to deal him. I guess I should have said that he was INCREASING his trade value, because I agree with that.

LMAO! I’m watching the NYY vs Philly ST game. Severino started and didn’t last an inning. Boone brought in a kid named Carlos Gomez to replace Severino. The kid is pitching like Carlos Gomez.

Yanier Diaz looks comfortable behind the plate. Him and Lee are both having solid STs... Maybe Maldonado needs to go jump around more with Edwin Diaz....

Unless Brantley starts the season on the IL, I don’t see how both Lee and Diaz will be on the opening day roster. Gonna be a tough call on which one starts the season at AAA.

Dirden just made a great catch in RF. That kid is making a bid for the OD roster.

Is this Jayden Murray guy we got in the trade last year anything to be excited about? He has had a good ST and his minor league numbers are good too.

Ronel Blanco's first start: 3.1 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 5 K. Just as I predicted!
Yainer Diaz caught most of the game in which the Astros shutout the Cardinals, and had two hits.
Two singles and a bomb for Abreu.
Meyers with a hit and a walk while leading off.

Yanier Diaz looks comfortable behind the plate. Him and Lee are both having solid STs... Maybe Maldonado needs to go jump around more with Edwin Diaz.... I have changed my mind on which of Lee and Diaz will make the OD roster. I was thinking that, if they both did well in ST Lee would get the nod due to the fact that he has more time at AAA and MLB than Diaz. After watching Diaz catch yesterday’s game, I am comfortable that he can handle the position. I think that Diaz’ being fluent in spanish will give him an advantage when it comes time to pick the OD roster.

I think Lee makes it since he is a little more polished defensively and the FO seems to be high on that at C. (Although Diaz looks pretty good back there.) If Yordan and Brantley are delayed, I'd like to see them both (and Dirden) make the OD roster. Altuve 2B Pena SS Bregman 3B Abreu DH Tucker RF Dirden LF Diaz 1B Lee C Chas CF I know it won't happen, but Dirden has earned the 4th OF spot, imo. I don't know what his defense is like in CF though.

ZiPS Projections for 2023 from Fangraphs are below. I think the counting stats look pretty reasonable, but I think the BAs are on the low end, and the ERAs are on the high end:
Yordan: 40 HR 120 RBI 101 Runs 1 SB .296/.388/.598 Bregman: 23 HR 94 RBI 89 Runs 2 SB .273/.381/.478 Altuve: 25 HR 67 RBI 97 Runs 10 SB .279/.355/.482 Pena: 21 HR 73 RBI 74 Runs 11 SB .248/.302/.413 Tucker: 30 HR 113 RBI 86 Runs 22 SB .270/.340/.505 Abreu: 19 HR 86 RBI 73 Runs 1 SB .279/.351/.451 Brantley: 8 HR 45 RBI 50 Runs 2 SB .290/.354/.423 Chas: 13 HR 54 RBI 51 Runs 5 SB .233/.316/.384
Framber: 14-7 182 IP 3.26 ERA McCullers: 8-4 112 IP 3.37 Javier: 10-6 132 IP 3.74 ERA Garcia: 11-8 136 IP 4.09 ERA Urquidy: 10-7 140 IP 4.04 ERA Brown: 8-6 109 IP 3.77 ERA Pressly: 5-1 30 Saves 2.58 ERA Neris: 6-3 2 Saves 3.55 ERA Stanek: 2-2 3.90 ERA Abreu: 3-2 3.76 ERA Montero: 4-2 3 Saves 3.71 ERA Martinez: 4-3 3.85 ERA Maton: 2-1 3.83 ERA

I'm not going to say that Dubon doesn't have any value given his defensive versatility and cheap cost. He's not a BAD utility player. I just think we have guys that can hit better and have a higher ceiling, even if they don't have all that defensive versatility.

I like Diaz better, but I'm leaning Lee still as far as who I think will actually win the job. The team has all but come out and directly said "we don't care how much the catcher hits." Diaz does look good back there, but modern catching is much more invisible; it's calling the game more than actually reacting, and it's difficult to impossible for us to tell for sure how they're doing in that regard. If they think Lee is the better game caller, then that's probably the end of it. They'll let Diaz keep working on that in AAA in preparation for 2024 with Maldonado gone.

Looking at the talented outfield prospects we have who should be ML ready within the next 1-3 years (Dirden, Gilbert, Melton), I’m thinking getting Framber, Altuve and Bregman locked up on extensions might be my priority before extending Tucker. Especially if Tucker’s demands in years and/or dollars is excessive.
