Surprised on Pena, but he does have the potential to be top 100, even 75, maybe top 50 He was actually 65th in fWAR last season, right around the same range as guys like Devers, Alonso, Muncy. He beat Springer (79th). Well-above-average SS defense + nearly league-average bat + healthy all year. Last year he nearly doubled his walk rate while cutting 3.9% off his strikeout rate. Some rag on him but he a potential GG defender at short and could easily be a 110+ or better hitter with a good adjustment or two. We know he has more power than he got to last year. I'm really hoping for a big year.

Hopefully on the Astros wishlist, if he falls to them in the draft. Doubtful. HS lefties who are 95 MPH+ already are extremely rare. Barring something unfortunate or weird, I doubt he lasts past the first 15, and certainly first 20, picks. But even if he did, after Aiken and Whitley, maybe we should adopt the Billy Beane "no high school pitchers with the first round pick" approach.

Perfectly respectable season at a low salary.

the same one we dumped a few years ago? We traded him. And then he immediately turned into a very good offensive player. Get him back for corner IF spot depth for cheap.

Maybe this has changed now that Dusty is gone, but the thing with Singleton was the desire for a left-handed power bat off the bench. Davis is right-handed. If they still feel strongly about it I don't think they'll swap out Singleton for Davis. But it would definitely be nice to have him as a backup in case Abreu goes belly up again. And he can pitch in blowouts, too.

I hate to be the one to put it on one guy, but the one that really sticks out is Verlander. Most of the pitchers did pretty well. Verlander coughed up 7 ER in 11 IP. It needed to be said. Entire servers have been devoted to opinions about Game 7, but the series shouldn't have gone that long

The samples on Singleton are too small to mean anything, but oddly enough, he crushed left on left last year (26 PA), and died against RHP (79 PA). I'm glad I looked it up though. To my shock, Davis has been basically the exact same hitter against right or left; 115 wRC+ against LHP, 114 against RHP. His career strikeout rate is only 0.6% higher against RHP. I can't remember the last time I saw someone that consistent in a significant sample size. I think it's unreasonable to expect Singleton to be even average, much less 10-15% better than average, against anybody, and Davis has some positional flexibility. Since he cleared waivers, I'm on-board with the move, if they would make it.

Return for Cease; Iriarte and Thorpe are probably Top 100 guys (back half of the list). Zavala more like top 200 but is 19 and has a lot of potential to get better. Wilson is a solid reliever with significant control left. Cease has two years left and has never pitched 190 innings.
