I've only been to LA and northern California. I have no interest in going back really. LA is pretty much like Houston. I mean Hollywood is cool and all for about a minute, but it’s overall an okay city. It didn't impress me. The only cities that were above my expectations were Seattle (but filled with dirty hippies) and San Juan.

She actually gets sent on fancy schmancy business trips. She's in Oakland this week. Your post reminds me....back in the ‘80s and ‘90s my wife made a lot of business trips for the company she was employed with at that time. She was scheduled to be at a function of some kind in San Francisco at the time the earthquake hit during the 1989 World Series. She had her airline reservation booked and was ready to go, but the trip was cancelled a week or so before it was supposed to take place. Had the trip not been cancelled my wife would have been in SF during that earthquake. My wife is mildly concerned that she'll be trying to come back home in the middle of a bunch of storms. She does not like work trips. If she heard your story she would probably never go on one again. Our 4 year old is convinced she went to vacation without us.

I honestly don’t see how anyone can take anything seriously on an internet message board. I have never once put anyone on ignore, and I, along with some of you, have been through some of the worst trolls ever. Only Housedesk/Hogcard and Tom Petty have ever got me considering using the ignore button, but I never did. It amazes me that so called grown men and women throw such a fit when someone disagrees with them or throws a little shade their way. Again, you’re corresponding with strangers whom you’ve never met, so why get so offended when they know absolutely nothing about you? Anyway, hope this post doesn’t make some of you snowflakes melt. I’m 12 BTW. You're a douchepretzel BTW.

I don't twitter and I only see facebook about once a year around my birthday. Yes, I'm a dinosaur. Your a dinosaur because you don’t do social media? Welcome my friend. Yeah. I think I did pretty well getting from a rotary dial phone to a flip phone. Not only that, but I made it to a message board (with a little help)

Yes, you said it. Now, I am going to say mine. Why is it that I'm an "idiot" if I post something that is opposite of your opinion? I am no more an idiot than you or anyone else here. I have been involved with umpiring and coaching the game for years before retirement and those I coached must not have thought I was an idiot when we won district championships and a summer team of mine won a World Series for 15 and 16 year olds. I had numerous players get scholarhiips and play college baseball and a couple were drafted by major league teams as pitchers. I am not boasting just responding to you calling me an idiot who doesn't know what I'm talking about. I imagine my credentials stack up with yours or those of the valuable paastro, who definitely thinks he is valuable and has superior knowledge when compared to most of us. Glad he let us know he is headed off to Florida to work with some all-star teams if that is actually what he is going to do. I don't care what he does and I am not impressed by anything he does and I sure don't expect anyone to be impressed by what I have done. Now, this idiot who knows a good bit but doesn't know it all has said his peace. Since I am an idiot, feel free to ignore my posts .

Internet message boards have limited usefulness, especially if they involve topics that can inflame passions (sports, religion, etc.). Their greatest strength (allowing people to intermingle who normally wouldn't) is also their greatest weakness (giving voice to every strand of ill-informed yet passionately held belief). I check on the boards routinely for information/opinion on certain things, but I generally don't have the time or the inclination to argue with people, many of whom are often wrong but they're never in doubt. Allowing yourself to be drawn into an unwinnable debate (even if you're right) with such people is unwise, but it does provide a measure of entertainment for the rest of us.

My brother in law worked for the PA State Police a couple of years on the net catching sexual predators.

My wife is mildly concerned that she'll be trying to come back home in the middle of a bunch of storms. She does not like work trips. If she heard your story she would probably never go on one again. Our 4 year old is convinced she went to vacation without us. Your girl is 4, wow...time is a flyin. Reminds me of two things -- 1) Sitting in a Houston restaurant with my parents when I was 15 years old, watching the baseball game in SF as the earthquake happened; and 2) an incident with a friend in Saigon who had purchased a ticket from Saigon to Phnom Penh on September 3, 1997. A couple days before the meeting he was to attend there, the organizers called and said it had been postponed, so he changed his ticket. As it turned out, Vietnam Airlines flight 815 took off as scheduled on 9/3/97, but it crashed 800 meters short of the runway. Talk about leading a charmed life! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_Airlines_Flight_815A couple weird things I learned about the crash in later years -- a) There was a sole survivor: a baby girl, though both her parents died. They took the baby to the hospital and the doctors could find no significant injuries with her. It was as if an angel had lifted her up and set her down gently on the rice field. That girl appeared in the papers recently; said she has no recollection of the accident (she was a few months old at the time). b) a pilot I know at Vietnam Airlines told me the real reason for the crash -- the communist authorities in Hanoi were afraid that their pilots would defect to Thailand by making an unauthorized flight plan change and heading to Bangkok. To prevent this, they implemented a policy of only filling each plane with enough fuel for the journey plus 10% more as a reserve. The plane that crashed was forced into a holding pattern for some time due to storms in the area; the 10% reserve was not quite enough. That's why it fell from the sky... not because it was a crummy Soviet plane.

The Communist was still paranoid about defectors still in 97. I thought Relations had already started to thaw before then with the West. Maybe I am wrong but I could have sworn some of my Customers were having stuff made in Vietnam before 97.
