McCullers vs. Mengden
Altuve, Bregman, and Correa have utterly destroyed Mengden in limited ABs. Everybody else, poor to mixed results. McCullers just needs to avoid Semien, primarily.
The team is riding a 5-game winning streak and the following hitters are all now technically above league-average in offensive percentage production using OPS+:
Springer: 148 (On pace for his best year in almost every category.) Altuve: 143 (On pace for 12 HR 24 SB and 225 Hits) Bregman: 134 Stassi: 131 Correa: 128 Kemp: 119 Gattis: 107 Reddick: 102 Gurriel: 101
For the pitching staff (ERA+):
McHugh: 312 Verlander: 262 Rondon: 256 Devenski: 219 Cole: 176 Sipp: 158 Peacock: 142 Morton: 135

Stassi and Sipp are the surprises of the year...(I don't trust Sipp)

I have to give Kemp credit there too. He is far more valuable so far than I thought he would be. I figured we would just be replacing Marisnick with a weaker defensive but slightly better OBP guy, and I've been wrong to this point. His arm is garbage but he makes some good plays and he has done very well with the bat.

I have never been a fan of Sipp, but, he is doing his job right now......I trust him more than Harris. Stassi has been a very pleasant surprise and Kemp has helped the offense.

Kemp is what happens when you bring up a good player and let him play every day. Wish they'd done that with JD Davis.

Flashback with Towles. He had a great game in some blowout where he homered off some position player, and we all were suckered into believing in him.

Even Bregman had a really slow start.

Wondering where to put this, saw it on another site and thought it would be good information as it puts just how bad Marisnick is hitting this year. As of June 7 there were 304 mlb players with at least 100 at bats. Ranking these guys where 1 would be great and 304 is pathetic here is where Marisnick rates in these categories.
AVG - 300th
OBP - 304th
SLG - 290th
OPS - 301st
Hits - 298th
His 3.1 strikeouts for every hit ranks 303rd.
So I apologize to Mr McGoo as Mr Marisnick rates below you in hitting mlb pitching.

He's on pace to set negative franchise records in a few categories for a position player. I can't imagine he is still on the team in August. It's been a triple whammy because Marwin and Reddick (2 other guys who play OF and can trade off with Jake) are also hitting poorly. Super 2 will be here any day now and so maybe we get to see how Ted does or doesn't adjust to MLB. Probably a good idea to trade for an OF just in case Ted doesn't. In spite of it all, though, the Astros are now 6th in MLB in team OPS and might overtake Atlanta for 5th place this month.

Who do we get for the OF if we get rid of Marisnick? Do we have a good young OFer (at least defensively) that we can replace him with right now? White is not the answer for the OF...

Kemp is a second baseman playing the outfield. He can definitely chase down a flyball, but as you say, he just doesn’t have the arm. He could be a major league second baseman for some team, I believe, just not the Astros. Never gonna happen. I wonder if we might see him included in a trade at the deadline this year or maybe this offseason. Ant ideas as to what team(s) need a second baseman and could match up with Houston on a deal?

Works for me. Heck, bring them both up. Tucker can play LF and Straw can be the 4th OFer defensive replacement for Marisnick.

If Tucker doesn’t completely fall on his face over the next couple weeks, I think we will see him in Houston soon. It looks like he is being groomed to take over in left field now. Prior to the last week or so Tucker was splitting time between RF and LF pretty much equally, but I have noticed that he has been playing LF exclusively lately. You know how the FO likes to see a minor leaguer go through a period of adversity before they call them up. Straw went through a 4-30 stretch May 31 - June 7. Since breaking out of that slump, he is 6-18 over his last 4 games so it would seem that he has met the “gotta go through adversity before being called up” requirement. Straw can play all 3 outfield positions. He had 14 OF assists last year and has 9 already this year. Since opening day 2017 he has walked more than he has struck out, has an OBP over .400, an OPS right at .800 and has stolen 73 bases in 88 attempts. I hope to see him promoted...at least to AAA...soon.
