I would really like a Goldschmidt bridge signing instead. If we're giving up yet another pick for a free agent signing, I'd rather target Vlad next year than Walker this year. I would take Vlad over Walker, but how much more $$$$ and years will Vlad get over Walker? A lot, but he's far better and far younger, yet will cost the same in terms of draft picks lost (and possibly less, actually, depending on if we get back under the cap at some point next season). We already lost a pick to sign a one inning reliever who choked in the playoffs. I don't want to give up another one for a mid-thirties first baseman. Despite his age, Vlad pretty much has the "first base/DH only" label on him now. I don't think he gets 10 years. But if he's still too much for Crane, Josh Naylor will hit the market then as well. He might get just four years, five max. There's also the possibility of Yainer playing 1B primarily if Janek shows up quickly. Basically I am just against giving up picks for non-special aging free agents.

Astros have completely sucked in this dept. since Bagwell/Berkman

Ok, here is my updated hopeful off season Astros re-sign Bregman to a 6 year/$150M deal, after 6 years he gets $5M a year, deferred for 6 years. Astros re-sign Kikuchi to a 3 year/$60M deal Astros trade Tucker and Pressly to the Phillies for Andrew Painter (RHP) Justin Crawford (OF) Nick Castellanos (OF) Astros trade Valdez to the Red Sox for Roman Anthony (OF) or Kristan Campbell (OF, 2B/SS) David Sandlin (RHP) After that Astros sign a 1B - I hope it would be Christian Walker 3 year/$75M deal, but more likely it would be Paul Goldschmidt at 1 year/$12M with a 2nd year team option of $13M with some $1M buyout. And a reliever or two that cost less than $4M and only for a 1 year deal I would really like a Goldschmidt bridge signing instead. If we're giving up yet another pick for a free agent signing, I'd rather target Vlad next year than Walker this year. I like Vlad but isn’t he a DH in 1B clothing?

I like Vlad but isn’t he a DH in 1B clothing? Yes but he's kind of Yordan with the bat so I don't really care. I want lefty Yordan and righty Yordan in my lineup and I will sacrifice what I must to get it.

Astros have completely sucked in this dept. since Bagwell/Berkman And Bagwell was originally a 3B and Berkman originally an OF (excuse me Lance, "All-Star centerfielder"). The Astros haven't developed a good, dedicated 1B straight from the draft since Glenn Davis.

Rumor has it that Coca-Cola has exercised their right to opt out of owning MMP's sponsorship. Reportedly the Japanese company Daikin, the largest air conditioner manufacturer (appropriate) in the world, will be signing on, turning Minute Maid Park into Daikin Park for next year and beyond.
Daikin is from Japan. Roki Sasaki is from Japan. LETS GO GITTER DONE.

Welcome to Daikin Park, the big news. Astros re-sign Kikuchi, Benihana moves off from Louisiana street to be closer to Daikin Park, Miyagi-Do opens multiple dojos in Houston…and wham Astros sign Sasaki. Solved, what else is on the agenda?

BTW another cheap option to consider: Mark Canha. He's old and shouldn't be expensive, as a RHH he posted a 124 wRC+ against LHP last season and was also near average right on right. He can also play corner OF as well as 1B, which could help with the uncertainty of Chas and the whole OF picture. Not a sexy idea but his skillset could help answer multiple questions for us and it's likely he only get a 1-2 year deal.

This past season seemed to be one where the team coasted and just expected to win because of the history and competition in the division. They seemed to lack the excitement that an injection of youth and hunger for success that our teams in the past always seemed to have. Trading Valdez, Tucker, and as far as I am concerned Hader should bring a treasure trove of new prospects. Not resigning Bregman and the extra money that trading those three stars would bring would allow us to sign free agents to fill the slots so that a drop off in performance is not too terrible and we end up with a team capable of winning today and has hope for the future. I really like this approach.

Yeah. Crane has been so bad. So, what’s the likelihood of Crane signing a 23-year old potential superstar free agent, given his track record as owner? Show me one owner that has signed a 23-year superstar free agent.

The Daikin move seems good. It should be for more money than we were getting from Coca Cola, and maybe it will help with some ties to Japan and their market. I don't understand the people all up in arms over the change...who cares what the name of the stadium is? It'll always be Union Station to true Houston residents/fans.

Tonight is the deadline for adding guys to the 40-man roster that you want to protect from the Rule 5 draft. Astros have added Colton Gordon. They have one spot left if they want to protect someone else.
In the age of ultra velocity, Gordon is a throwback crafty lefty who is 90-92 with the fastball mostly. Relies on good command of a traditional four pitch mix. Very effective vs. LHB and hangs in against righties. Will be MLB-ready next season, possibly right out of camp. Could be an important depth piece, consider all the pitching injuries this team has dealt with in recent years. Just don't expect the next Arrighetti out of nowhere story. More like the next Bielak probably.
