This will be the toughest competition the Astros have faced in a while.
A's are ranked as the 12th best team in MLB overall by FiveThirtyEight.
A's have a 4.56 team ERA over the last 30 days (11th in MLB).
A's have a .768 team OPS over the last 30 days (9th in MLB).
Lowrie, K Davis, and M Canha all hitting very well and Piscotty being a nuisance as usual.
The Manaea gave could be particularly tough, but we'll see.

Here is some good archival footage of the Astros 2002 team. This game didn't end well, but there is not much footage of the 2002 team available to the public so it might be worth archiving for the offseason.

They do a lot with very little. Scrappy team

I'm hoping we can reach, and then stay ahead of, the 2 wins for every loss level today.

I am guessing yes.

I said on the old board that the Astros' main divisional foe this season would be the A's. As fate would have it, the Angels became an early nuisance, then handed it over to the M's. But now I think the A's will start to show they are the second-best team in the division. Enough to be a nuisance, nothing more.

Agreed, but a 6 1/2 game lead will be tough (but not impossible )for the A's to overcome.

Seattle has not faded as badly as I thought they would by now but they are razor thin and I do not think that they can continue to pull rabbits out of the hat. Oakland is 21-12 since June 1 but 3 of those 12 losses were to the Astros. Plus Oakland has the ability to bring up a couple of guys for help. I think the big playoff question left to answer is if Oakland can catch Seattle and Oakland is a good road team as well.

The Astros can effectively bury the A's in this series. The Mariners are still the only serious contender we have to deal with for the division and I think they go away by September.

24-6 over our last 30 games. That's good for the best 30-game stretch in franchise history

Half of their starting staff is on the 10 day DL. They have no hitter, of their starting hitters, hitting .300 or higher. Lowrie at .290 is highest. If Cole can keep the ball in the ballpark we have a good chance tonight.

Yuli isn't going to the All Star game so he can rest then. If Correa is taking ground balls, maybe his "stiffness" ...........or whatever he has.....is subsiding.

He needs another off day?

I had forgotten that........this makes resting him even more ridiculous....almost as dumb as having George DH yesterday.

Last year was a real grind. Hinch is maybe afraid of guys running out of steam late in the season. It seems to not make a difference with Springer. Something is up with him.

I'd feel better about that lineup if Springer woke up.

I got to thinking....Yuli just had 3 days off for his newborn. He needs another off day? Clipboard Maybe they want the improved OBP today. I'm okay with it. I don't like relying on Tucker and Fed at the bottom of the order though.

I want to see Tuckers swing a little more. Something about it seems a little long. Maybe Iâm wrong though.
