I am still not sold on how effective Colin is going to be coming out of the pen. Best bet would be to get him out there with a crooked number lead. I won't be surprised if next week Hinch announces one of the 5 starting pitchers is going on the DL for "shoulder soreness" or something generic like that. Not that he's really injured, just that they want the starters to pace themselves. Doing that would allow the team to slot McHugh in as, essentially, the 5th starter. He may well be more effective in that role and it would probably make him a happier camper. When starter #1 returns from the DL, guess what, the next guy gets a sore shoulder/elbow. And on and on for the entire season, allowing McHugh to get 20 or 25 starts. The plan worked last season, and the have the pitchers, probably will use it again. Plus it would be a good time to bring up Arm & Hammer it give him a shot. |

I don't agree with relying on Sipp for more than one inning. Sure the game isn't in danger but it was a big confidence builder for Sipp to have the clean inning. Don't wreck it by forcing a one-inning reliever have to cover two innings. Not really fair to Sipp. He's only meant to throw around 20 pitches in an outing.

One-inning relievers like :Sipp always trail off quickly after they've thrown 20 pitches. Hinch asked Sipp to throw over 30, which is a little ridiculous. Of course it doesn't put the game in jeopardy, but Sipp's stat line isn't going to reflect how well he actually did his job today.
