White still rates as a below-average defender, but he's shown good year by year improvement defensively since 2016. He's steadily reduced his error rate (no errors for White at 1B for all of 2018, MLB and AAA included). Also, his RZR (Range Zone rating) sits at .909 for this season, up from .556 last season.
