I totally agree with you on the “made up nonsense.” Spray charts are based on facts. Stats like BA, OBP, SO/W, SO/IP, W/IP, WHIP, XBH% are derived from facts...not from any formula some guy invented...WAR; for example, that supposedly accurately calculates how many wins one player is responsible for more (or less) than some other player over the course of a season or a career..., and not only that, can accurately calculate how much more (or less) valuable Mike Trout is than Babe Ruth was. Really? Come on. The fact that smooth talking player agents have convinced arbitrators to buy into WAR doesn’t change the fact that WAR is just one of many stats that are derived from a formula some guy dreamed up and peddled to the geeks. Uh oh, you just ruined Saint's entire day.  Not at all. I've never said only sabermetric stats matter. I think they have merit as part of a whole picture, but they aren't everything. That being said, saying they have no merit at all seems extreme. And, even if fans don't like them, more and more organizations are using them as part of their player analysis. That alone means they should carry some weight for us. (ex. We attribute great value to pieces of green paper because the government tells us it's important.) |

And for the record, there are a lot of sabermetric stats I don't care for. I don't like BABIP for one. I get what they're trying to do with it, but I think it's merit is very low over time.

Basic stat totals and percentages: These stats are non-debatable. 2. Situational stats: How does this player perform in various situations, including "clutch". 3. Sabermetric stats: Additional numbers that can help account for how they get some of their stats, and include some peripheral numbers that help complete the picture. 4. Defensive versatility and/or premium position? 4. Intangibles: Good clubhouse guy? Good hustle guy? Willingness to learn and/or adapt? 5. Illegal or PED activity? All have merit. |

I also just noticed that Sherwin's boy, Gattis, has now passed Correa in OPS. That's sad/funny. And he did it on the bench while White took his job. Great news for designated cleanup guy. At 1.054 OPS, White is closing in on the mighty Mike Trout at 1.081. |

I see Josh James is starting tomorrow for Houston. Valdez starting tonight. Astros offense better show up. I am surprised and pleased to see that. I think all the Astros starters could use a break. I am hoping JV will agree to a lighter workload in September...maybe skip a start or go an extra day between starts. I have read that he is a stickler for staying on a every-fifth-day routine. |

Prove it. I need to see your MAGA hat. I have one in Russian I have the White with the Presidental Seal on the Front. And A black one too plus three or four Mega's. Because of my job going into different factories I have to be careful to not piss off the people that I am there to help. So here On Long Island, I usually wear an Astros WS Hat or even a Cowboys Hat. That really gets the Giants Fan in a teasy. But that is acceptable |
