we got a break on that third strike call to Trout. Ump must have a date for after the game.

The Astros looked like they were going to tear it open and go up 6-7 runs at a couple points... ended up getting the win a somewhat harder way. But it works.

i wish we could see a lineup tomorrow minus Altuve and Gurriel. I would like to hear AJ's reasons for using Altuve as DH when he looks terrible at the plate.........automatic outs again tonight. Yul did get robbed by Simmons once and that was a hard liner to right his last time. Something is wrong with Altuve....I don't know what is is but he is out of it. Hinch needs to sit him.
Tomorrow, I'd go with
Springer RF Bregman 3B White DH Correa SS Gonzalez 1B McCann C Marisnick CF Kemp LF Keuchel P
It will never happen.....Jose will in the lineup batting third.

Great job by Cole and the bullpen. We were fortunate to get away with having a bases loaded, no outs situation, and only get one run on a bases loaded walk and still win the game. We MUST do better, especially when the guys we had at the plate are supposed to be run producers.
Pressley, Rondon, and Osuna were all great.....another save for our new closer.

Looking ahead to this afternoon's game, Kyle Gibson has given up 15 hits (incl 3 HRs) and 7 walks in his last 10 innings of work.
Time to strike mercilessly against a struggling pitcher.

something else about the Twins coming into this series -- it looks a little like that Memorial Day weekend series last year where the Twins had exhausted their bullpen prior to meeting the Astros.
Yesterday, the Rangers handed the Twins an 18-4 loss. The Twins went through 5 regular relievers before calling in their backup catcher to pitch the 9th.
That means the bullpen is nice and softened up for the Astros once they get past the starter. It will be especially helpful if Altuve, Gurriel and a couple others can avoid their proclivity for swinging at first pitches. Just make that starter wear himself out, then feast on the pen. MIN doesn't have much of one right now.

The first lineup Marshall posted sounds about right to me.
I'd tweak it on a day-to-day basis depending on the handedness of the opponent's starting pitcher, as well as Home/Away splits since some guys hit well in MMP and others just don't.
Players need to understand that they need to be happy to be on the team regardless of where they hit in the batting order, or even if they ride the pine for that matter. Players deal with injury and streakiness as matters of course, and Hinch needs to be able to make daily adjustments that take those factors into account. That's why it's completely acceptable to bat the World Series MVP in the bottom third of the order some days.

ps Just pickin,
Well, I overlooked that we needed a second baseman since I wanted to keep Altuve and Gurriel both out of the lineup. Both have been equally pathetic. I guess I could have let Gattis DH, with White at first and Marwin at second.. that is better t than watching Yuli hit ground balls and seeing Jose look like a lost puppy.

So you want to bench the reigning AL MVP and MLB batting champ? You do realize he is coming off injury, so he needs more ABs to get back to hitting again...

I wouldn't, Astros are in playoff chase....and Altuve needs ABs to get back into the swing of things....he has already had enough time off already.

Hinch needs to move him down in the order until he starts hitting since he insists on keeping him in the lineup. I am a big fan of Altuve, but, keeping him two or three in the order when he continues to strike out or hit popups makes no sense. We also need to keep in mind that his production was down considerably from last season before he went on the DL. The only regular from last year who is putting up better numbers is Bregman..........Altuve, Correa, and Springer are all down from what they did last year. I reazlize we can't expect career years every year, but, all of the commercials, public appearances, etc. has probably caused a lot of it.

Pre-All Star- Altuve was hitting .332/.394/.470 True, but, his power numbers from last year had dropped off considerably. He has consistently had very poor at bats in situations where he can normally be counted on to produce. Something isn't right, but, we can't be sure that more AB's is the cure. In the meantime, the team struggles offensively.

His power numbers go up when he is patient and stays in the zone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
