85-53 .616 winning percentage (On pace for 100 Wins.) 2.5 games ahead of Oakland in the division. 9.5 games behind Boston for overall lead (1 game behind NYY for 2nd best overall.) 1st in run differential at +224 Team OPS+: 110 Team ERA+: 129
Verlander vs. May
Verlander is currently sitting at 13-9 2.78 ERA and 240 Strikeouts. It would be nice to see a good full 6-7 innings of dominance against a weak-hitting Twins team from JV. He's got good numbers against most of them, and destroyed them back in April. 4 Strikeouts puts him back in the league lead. JV/Cole are only 17 strikeouts away from 500 as a duo for the season.
Hopefully the offense gives him some support. We need Altuve to get going again, and the other veterans outside of Bregman to start hitting consistently. Springer is hitting .300 with an .800+ OPS over the last two weeks.

Also, Verlander is 30 Strikeouts away from a new career best. 4-6 starts lefts he has a very good chance at breaking that.

Assuming Marwin will get the day off after his injury yesterday, is there any chance we could see something like this with Kemp playing 2B? Yuli sitting after his HR yesterday would be typical. First Last Pos OPS+/ERA+1 George Springer LF 112 2 Tony Kemp 2B 117 3 Alex Bregman 3B 157 4 Carlos Correa SS 112 5 Tyler White 1B 182 6 Jake Marisnick CF 89 7 Martin Maldonado C 103 8 Evan Gattis DH 109 9 Josh Reddick RF 99 P Justin Verlander SP 143
What was I thinking. Verlander is starting, so it has to be McCann catching...

I don't think Altuve is sitting out today based on what they've said.

I don't think Altuve is sitting out today based on what they've said. I agree. Atluve will be back at 2B batting second or third in the lineup. I think Hinch indicated that Marwin would be held out of the rest of the Twins series. If so I hope we see this since we know Hinch won't move Correa. Springer RF Altuve 2B Bregman 3B Correa SS White DH Gurriel 1B Maldonado C Marisnick CF Kemp LF But, I expect Reddick in RF, Springer in CF and Kemp in LF. I DON'T want to see Gattis or Davis.

Verlander hasn't won more than 16 games since 2012 despite his great seasons (outside of 2014). He'll likely get at least 5 more starts. If he can 4 wins out of those he'll hit 17. Slim chance, but possible.

Yeah with his amount of innings pitched and dominance in the first half, he should easily already have 15-17 wins if we had given him any kind of run support those first couple months.

Slim chance, but possible. Wins don't always tell the story of how a pitcher has pitched. Lack of run support probably cost Verlander at least 3 wins before the All-star break. He deserved his home loss to the Tigers for allowing 4 home runs. Lack of run support has not only cost Verlander wins, but, others starters as well.

For sure wins are overrated as a primary stat for pitchers. But they still mean something to voters and to most starters still.

I remember when Nolan Ryan went 8-16 with the Astros and his ERA was 2.76. He did his job.......the offense was terrible.

I guess that was his second year. I got the detail right, but the context wrong.

I thought he did, too, I checked before posting that and the source said 2.76

No Marisnick and no Gattis. Good. Since Reddick is an automatic out right now, it would make sense to put Jake in CF, Springer in right, and Kemp in LF. Jake was hitting at the time he went to the DL, Since Reddick is awful right now, give Jake a shot. It also gives us a better outfield.

Here's my problem with what Hinch does. Player A is brought up and was hot down on the farm. What does Hinch do sits him for first 6-8 games and lets Player A lose confidence and his hot streak go boom. We as fans have a freakout blame Player A for being a dunce.

If that clipboard is telling him to keep Reddick in the lineup and not give Jake a shot, he needs a new clipboard.........especially if it's the one that says bring Harris in to pitch.

No Marisnick and no Gattis. Good. And no one suspects we did anything. Hinch is always talking about ways to get players at bats, yet, he keeps going with Reddick who is not hitting and not giving at bats to Jake who was hitting when he went on the DL. He is the best outfielder on the team as well as the fastest. Sit Reddick and give him a chance. I agree with Gattis sitting. That home run Gurrile hit yesterday probably means he can go 0-20 and stay in the lineup........the clipboard will say so.

Y'all seem surprised that they're playing veterans signed to big contracts that had great years last year.
They're not going to waste money, especially when they don't have big improvements for those veterans anyways.

Next year's outfield could get real interesting with Tucker and Alvarez getting added into the mix. Alvarez is a left fielder, Tucker is a right fielder, and Springer is a center fielder, and Reddick is..........................26 million dollars sitting on the bench for the next two years.

Not saying that they will both be starting by April but am pretty sure that they will be by June.
