A couple of our former prospects had good games last night. Vince Velasquez threw 6 innings of 2 hit shutout ball for Philly and Ramon Laureano had a walk off single in extra innings for Oakland in his major league debut.
The pitcher we got from Oakland for Laureano, Brandon Bailey, is having a good year at High A ball. He has a 2.49 ERA with 113 strikeouts in 97.2 innings and is currently working on a streak of 30 consecutive innings without allowing a earned run. We didn’t have room on the 40-man roster last offseason to protect Laureano from the Rule 5 draft so Luhnow got what he could get for him before we lost him for nothing in return. Looks like Bailey could be a major leaguer down the road in 2-3 years.

Brandon Bailey's write-up from spring training about Verlander, McCann, and the whole scene in Florida was really cool. Bailey sounded like a really good kid in the article and I hope he rises through the system.

Tucker had a good game, nice to see him getting hits. No CC what is up with that, I hope no regression. We can not afford that.

I was concerned about CC not being in the lineup as well, but I went back and read the article on Astros.com about him headed to rehab and Hinch said that Correa would get off days during his rehab assignment. I’m hoping he was out of the lineup because they just didn’t want to have him play on back-to-back days at the beginning of his rehab.

How do people like Arauz keep a job? Hitting .150 in A ball? What’s even harder to understand is how the guy is rated the #23 prospect in the Astros farm system which is rated as the 9th best farm system in baseball. He must have one helluva good glove.
