From game played July 30:
AAA - Fresno 5 Omaha (Royals) 3 Myles Straw RF: 0-4, 2 K, BA .268....I’m thinking he is either playing with an injury or they are jacking with his swing and he is trying to adjust. Derek Fisher CF: 1-4, BA .262....stole a base(8) Taylor Jones 1B: 2-3, 2 2B, BA .220 AJ Reed DH: 1-4, 1 2B, BA .260 Yordan Alvarez LF: 1-4, 1 HR(4), BA .222 Jamie Ritchie C: 2-4, BA .382...this guy is handling AAA well. He was promoted from Corpus on July 2 to replace Federowitz and he has done nothing but hit since he got there. I don’t know if he can keep it up, but his performance at Fresno has been a pleasant surprise. He is also throwing out runners attempting to steal at about a 33% rate. Nick Tanielu 3B: 1-3, 1 2B, BA .246 Antonio Nunez SS: 1-3, BA .206 Josh James RHP: 6.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, ERA 3.28....good to see just the one walk. If he can get the walks under control, I think he will make us a good ML pitcher. Buddy Boshers LHP: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, ERA 2.77 Riley Ferrell RHP: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, ERA 6.00

He just moves along and slowly moves up the ranks. I was tempted to list him with the other guys that I thought should be on the top 30 list. Now that I think about it some more I think he should be. Supposedly it is because he is not not an athlete.

From game played July 31:
AA - Corpus Christi 5 San Antonio (Padres) 4 Ronnie Dawson CF: 1-3, 1 2B, BA .333....his first game at AA since being promoted from Buies Creek Stephen Wrenn DH: 1-4, BA .263 Randy Cesar 1B: 3-4, BA .322 Josh Rojas LF: 0-3, BA .256 Abraham Toro 3B: 0-2, BA .171 Chas McCormick RF: 1-3, BA .288 Alex De Goti SS: 1-3, BA .279 Eduardo de Oleo C: 1-3, BA .178 Corbin Martin RHP: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, ERA 2.40....he had a perfect game going for 6 2/3 innings before he gave up a single with two outs in the seventh inning. Faced just 22 batters. He was drafted in the second round last June with a pick the Astros were awarded from the Cardinals for the hacking incident, After he was drafted last summer, he pitched 5 scoreless innings in the Gulf Coast Rookie League and was promoted to Short Season A Tri-City where he pitched 27.2 innings and recorded a 2.60 ERA. He started this season at Advanced A Buies Creek...skipping Full Season A ball...and pitched 19 scoreless innings before being promoted to AA where he has pitched 75 innings, allowed just 56 hits, struck out 66, walked 18, allowed just 3 home runs, has held opposing batters to a ..205 batting average, has a .99 WHIP and and recorded a 1.38 GO/AO ratio. After tonight’s performance, I wonder if he will get promoted to AAA to finish out the season. If he does, that would be quite an accomplishment to go from Advanced A to AAA in his first full season of pro ball. Erasmo Pinales RHP: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, ERA 6.07 Ronel Blanco RHP: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, ERA 5.56

Perez may go to the bullpen, since Sipp is gone after this season. He is the best lefty that we have. I’m hoping Framber Valdez keeps building on the good run he is having recently. I remember seeing him pitch in ST in 2017 and thinking he looked like he might have potential, but he kinda stunk it up at AA that year and really didn’t start looking a lot better until the last month or so.

I hate players who sign a multi-year contract and then kick back and coast until the final year of their contract when they start playing hard in order to get another multi-year deal.

You would think that a guy who hits as well as Stubbs, throws as well as Stubbs, and has progressed as fast as Stubbs, would get more positive reviews than he has. What am I missing. He went on the DL early last season with a hamstring issue and never really got going all year. I think that may have something to do with it. He’s not a big guy so maybe they are thinking he won’t stick at catcher in the big league. Probably the fact that he doesn’t hit for power is the biggest reason you don’t hear much about him.

I’m hesitant in saying that Stassi/Stubbs should be the catching tandem for next season unless the Astros add another decent bat.

I think that they both have the ability to hit well enough, to throw well enough, and wear the tools of ignorance well enough. I wonder about their ability to game plan and call a game.

We can't have a veteran FA at every position.

As well as Sipp is pitching right now, he could be re-signed. I doubt that Luhnow will be fooled again. I hate players who sign a multi-year contract and then kick back and coast until the final year of their contract when they start playing hard in order to get another multi-year deal. The best example of that was when they signed Richard Hidalgo to that big deal and then he flopped.
