Tyler White is off to a good start at the plate for Fresno. If Gattis keeps striking out, he better watch out for that "other" bearded slugger.

Sorry I didn’t post any results for the Friday or Saturday milb games. Had to make a trip to Arlington for my granddaughter’s gymnastics meet. Wore my Astros 2017 World Series Champions gear while I was there for the benefit of the locals. I will catch up on the box scores over the next couple days.

What a horrific game by Martes. He really needs to work on his mechanics. Obviously he has still not gotten to a point where his delivery is repeatable. Great raw stuff, poor physical discipline.

Straw has always had a great ob%. If he ever develops just a little pop, watch out. He sure seems to have the rest of it figured out.

Straw has always had a great ob%. If he ever develops just a little pop, watch out. He sure seems to have the rest of it figured out. I am pulling for this guy. He is an on-base machine, a base stealing threat and a good outfielder at all 3 positions. I hope he does well enough at AA to get promoted to AAA by mid-season so we can see how he handles AAA this year. If he does well at AA and AAA this season, I could see him challenging Jake for the 4th OFer job as early as next season, but certainly in 2020. Another guy I am watching is Jack Mayfield. With the likely departure of Marwin after this season, I wonder if Mayfield can force himself into the competition for the super utility role next season. He had 20 HRs and an .827 OPS between AA and AAA last season. He had a very good ST with the Astros this year. He plays 2B, SS and 3B. I am curious to see if they give him some playing time in LF at AAA this season. If we see him playing some in the outfield this season, I definitely think he will be considered for the utility role with the big club if he continues to hit well.

At first I never really paid any attention to Mayfield. It was obvious that they were trying to groom White for the job. Last year he kind of popped up on my radar at least as he just seemed to quietly do well and advance. I think White is a major league quality player but not a guy you really have to have. Mayfield really has not done anything to make you go wow yet but he does play well and he does have a bit of an age advantage on White. So yeah I agree let's see what he does this year. Somebody will have to replace Gonzo and having more than one choice is always a good thing.

Looks like AAAA players, White and Reed, are doing well so far....Tucker should get the promo later in this season....Way to go Yuli, and the other AA OFs....Ferrell, c'mon on man!...what are the raps on Corbin Martin and Jonathan Arauz (didn't we get him in a trade)?
Has Bukauskas pitched yet?

Has Bukauskas pitched yet? Bukauskus is scheduled to make his first start of the season for Quad Cities today. Martin is rated the Astros #13 prospect by mlb.com. His fastball sits in the mid-90s and is said to throw an overpowering curveball and a mid-80s slider. His issue in college was his control. So far in pro ball he has walked 11 in 40.2 innings. Astros must have been impressed with his work at Rookie League ball and Short Season A ball last year because he skipped Class A Quad Cities and started this season at Class A Advanced Buies Creek. Jonathan Arauz came over from Philadelphia along with Giles in the trade for VV, Appel, Oberholtzer, Eshelmann and Harold Arauz. Jonathan Arauz is just 19 years old and is now rated the Astros #22 prospect by mlb.com.

You don't think they will get the call if Gattis keeps struggling? White will get a call up if there is another injury to the infield and Davis doesn't start doing more. But he'll never see real playing time with us at this point.

I still think Reed is a Justin Smoak kind of prospect. He needs to get some discipline and trim another 20 lbs of jelly off that frame of his and he might develop into something. They were making a big deal of his off season weight loss and he definitely looked better but he still does not look like a professional athlete. I am pulling for him, hate for us to have two #1 first base prospects go up in flames.
