.....think about all that power you get in Straw, a home run every 10 at bats so far. For sure. The man is a beast. Hmmm....a home run every 10 ABs. That is a number right out of the steroid era. I’m sure he is under intense scrutiny by the PED police.

I’m thinking the Astros go with 11 pitchers. With all the talk I’ve seen at various sources concerning the possibility that they could be on a post-season roster, I am going to go with the assumption that James, Straw and Valdez are all eligible for the post-season rosters Here is my best guess: Cole Verlander Keuchel Morton (if healthy) McCullers (if healthy) McHugh Smith Pressley Osuna Sipp James McCann Maldanado Gattis Gurriel Altuve Correa Bregman Springer Reddick Gonzalez White Marisnick Kemp Straw (filling the role that Fisher filled in 2017) If Morton and/or McCullers is not healthy, I’m thinking they are replaced by Harris and Peacock, in that order. I THINK Joe Smith is the only hinger. That's gonna be the ticket. Kemp makes it no matter. Jake and Straw should make it. Jake Def straw bat and running

I bet Olpapa's got two spots wrong. It will be Rondon and Peacock instead of Smith and James.

AJ Hinch makes the ALDS roster. .... lucky for Jake, huh? Whoever makes the roster and would leave Jake off is a damn fool.

Rondon has a 5+ era since the all star break. He stays home.

Rosters can change before the LCS Team announced yesterday that they are going with 11 pitchers. Of course, they could always change their mind before Friday. If they carry Rondon on the roster and leave off James, I think that is a huge mistake. I also don’t think it makes any sense to carry Maldanado, McCann, Gattis AND Stassi on the roster. If a third catcher is needed in a pinch, Gattis can step in. A super fast guy filling the role that Fisher filled last year makes much more sense. Really Straw is better for that role than Fisher was last year. Straw is an excellent outfielder who can play all three outfield positions well AND who has a strong arm and is capable of throwing a runner out who tries to take the extra base on him. Fisher takes bad routes to the ball and since he has a noodle arm, teams have no fear about taking the extra base on him. Straw also doesn’t strike out 50% of the time. I am more confident that Straw will be picked instead of Stassi than I am that James will be picked instead of Rondon simply because of the way AJ is about not wanting to hurt a player’s feelings.

CLE has already announced Kluber and Carrasco as their Game 1 and Game 2 starters.
I would expect to see JV and GC in that order, but no official word yet.
With Morton and Lance both being a little iffy healthwise toward the end, I'd think DK will be Game 3. Then Game 4 could either be back to JV or we see a limited start for Morton followed quickly by some combo of Lance, James, McHugh, Peacock...

You and I think alike on this. No need for Stassi when Gattis could be an emergency third catcher and we can use that spot for Straw, who could steal us a run with his speed.

If I had my choice, I'd start Morton in game 3.

We have had some slight success against Kluber in the past. We don't own him by any means but we are usually successful at scratching out runs against him. Hope that trend continues!

Bauer pitches well against us,too. I have more confidence with Morton matched up with Bauer or Clevenger than Keuchel. The only way I would consider Keuchel in game 3 is we are up 2-0.

I think everyone is sleeping on Will Harris. If we don't want the relievers that ended the year poorly (Smith, Rondon, and Peacock) then wouldn't you want the guy who ended the year on a hot streak?
Plus as much as people here like talking about peripherals, Smith's indicate he's been lucky.

No thank you. Rather have Smith and Rondon

Years ago I would have joined this fray. Now, I trust Hinch / Luhnow to secure the hot hand as far as personnel.
Re: (1) Last year's magic (2) Winning 103 this year despite the worst mid season rash of injuries to key people in Astros history..
We are lucky fans having those 2.

Marshall got his wish: no Rondón or Smith in the bullpen this round. Also, it’s a surprise for me how Kemp AND Straw made the cut.
Todd’s boy Stassi, however, did not. They surprisingly stuck with two catchers.

I knew AJ would remain loyal to Harris and be dumb enough to keep this loser. I had rather had Smith. I am very pleased that James and Straw are both on the roster. AJ must know that Straws speed could steal us a run, and, in a series where both teams have strong pitching, one run can make a huge difference.

article provides a really good rationale why AJ left Smith and Rondón off. And it doesn't have to do with how they performed in September. It's about matchups

Overall I thought AJ did a nice job of making the tough decisions. It's not easy paring a roster that deep down to only 25 guys.

as easy as it may be to take a player's postseason career into consideration, it's not always feasible to do so. Sale, Price & Porcello are a combined 0-11 in the postseason with a 6.18 ERA, but Cora can't exactly go with a different playoff rotation. It wouldn't make sense

No way Correa sits even though he is struggling, however Harris is easily replacable and a player that no fan would miss.
With that said. Hinch has always gone to Harris over the years and wouldn't be surprised if he keeps him on the roster in place of Smith. Hinch wwould probably tell Smith, when we make it to the ALCS, the relief pitcher that almost screwed us in the first round will be the guy you replace.
