I had to watch innings 6 to 9 on tape delay... had to go to work with the game tied 2-2 and it was a little concerning when I saw the game went over 4 hours bc I assumed it had to have gone to extra innings.
Reddick must have been really pissed with himself for not legging out that ground ball... I guess the spider slowed him down just enough. What better way to make up for it than a HR.
Yuli didn't even appear to have gotten a very good swing on the ball but that one cleared the fence so who cares.
Shark couldn't seem to buy a hit, either swinging when he shouldn't or staying put when he should let it rip. Or he gets solid contact but the ball falls a foot foul. I have to think his luck is going to change this series though; he is due for a big game.
The whole bit of pinch running Marisnick in the DH spot such that he couldn't play late-inning defense didn't amuse me... Gattis rode the pine tonight while Straw would have made the more logical pinch runner.
Overall, it looked like the Astros did a good mauling of the BoSox bullpen, got a lot of their guys tired right from Game 1, so that should pay dividends later in the series.

For a second I thought Bregman was going to charge the mound and pull a Nolan Ryan on Joe Kelly. If the catcher hadn't gotten in the way, it might have happened.

I just want to salute your enthusiasm throughout the season. You've given me confidence that an Astros sweep against the Red Sox is a real possibility.

As to whether the Astros face Sale again this series, and whether he can be any good, these were some interesting numbers on twitter:
This is something worth watching.
Chris Sale's first-inning fastball velocity tonight: 91, 89, 90, 92, 94, 93, 93, 90, 92, 89.
His first-inning fastball velocity in his ALDS start: 95, 94, 93, 95, 95, 96, 95, 95, 96, 97.
Average tonight: 91.3 mph Average in ALDS: 95.1 mph

I have to think Price's luck against the Astros has run out.
He isn't the same pitcher he was a year ago or even a few months ago.

Love to see Houston knock him around tonight. I like to see the Astros get 3 runs off him, and Price get pulled without finishing the 5th....keep making them go to their pen early...Boston elected to have 11 pitchers, not 12 like the Astros...

The fact that the Astrps have seen Price twice this season already probably gives them an edge more than it gives Price an edge.
Each Astros hitter can go back and look at his ABs against Price this year, see how Price likes to attack them, and then come up with a strategy for doing things better this time.
Last game against Price was that weird one where the home plate umpire got hit in the face and had to leave due to concussion protocol or whatever. It created a break in the game that might have thrown Cole off a little. The Astros didn't score till the 7th inning in that game but when they did, they really poured it on heavy against Brasier and Kelly.

Reddick's having a much better postseason than last year. It was painful watching Marisnick's horrible starts in April and May, but the rest for Josh yielded results in the end It'd be great if Yuli keeps swinging the bat like that if they're not gonna pitch to Bregman

Saint just orgasmed when Maldonado didn't stop that wild pitch. He'll use that to beat Corch over the head for the next 6 months. I've given up. The performance should speak for itself. a lot of this stuff comes down to whether a player is likeable. Gattis and Maldonado can't block for shit if they were sitting on cowcatchers, but their teammates like them and that goes a long way with the fanbase

Gattis and Maldonado can't block for shit if they were sitting on cowcatchers, but their teammates like them and that goes a long way with the fanbasei don't think being liked won Maldonado a Gold Glove. There is a reason why it is called a WILD PITCH, these are created by the pitcher, not the catcher, A PASSED BALL is the fault of the catcher. Verlander was charged with two WILD PITCHES. Maldonado was charged with ZERO PASSED BALLS. This means that both were the responsibility of Verlander and NONE the responsibility of Maldonado. Who is well-liked on the team has nothing to do with it. Poor Saint can't get passed the fact that he said Maldonado would not make the post-season roster and that Stassi was our best catcher......he is WRONG on both counts. AJ rated Stassi as THIRD best catcher which is why he isn't on the roster. Gattis could be used in an emergency, which we all should hope never happens. It is time for you people to stop showing your ignorance by bashing Maldonado.

It is time for you people to stop showing your ignorance by bashing Maldonado. What do you mean.... YOU PEOPLE! By "you people" I was referring to those who continue to show their ignorance about the catching position by bashing Maldonado......even when he doesn't stop wild pitches which are not of his making. Saint started hammering Maldonado the day Luhnow traded for him and has kept it up. He assured me that Maldonado would not make the playoff roster and that Stassi is a superior catcher. Apparently, Hinch doesn't agree since Maldonado is not only on the roster, but, is getting most of the starts.

I said Maldonado is an excellent receiver. What more do you want?
I mean, letting two pitches get by him to advance runners, including the tying run, is fine for a catcher. I mean, Verlander was seen saying "come on, man!" after it, but I'm told Maldonado is great despite the stats or what you can actually see.....
Plus his offense is pretty damn good too. He's been excellent at the plate too. I'm totally pro Maldonado now.

Sure, losing Hader sucked, but we ended up with 2017 without mortgaging the farm. It’s an overall win. How is losing Hader and getting Fiers.....who did NOTHING to help us win in 2017....an overall win. We dumped Fiers out of the rotation and added Verlander. Getting rid of Fiers was a big win. This is why it was a win.

If I’m not mistaken, immediately prior to the pitch that hit Bregman the umpire had called time and Kelly went ahead and threw the pitch (though the ump had called time and Bregman had backed away from the plate)and the pitch was in precisely the same location in the batters box as was the next pitch that hit Bregman. I wondered if Bregman may have thought Kelly was sending him a message with the pitch he threw while time was out and then hit him intentionally with the next pitch. That could have been why Alex reacted the way he did.

“Not the first time Kelly has drilled somebody on purpose.”
Kelly must have a lot of confidence in his teammates protecting him in a brawl. He looks a little too wormy to be picking a fight that he is going to have to finish.
