Houston (103-59) Team ERA+: 130 Team OPS+: 109
Boston (108-54) Team ERA+: 117 Team OPS+: 112
Verlander vs. Sale
Pitching depth versus Mookie and Martinez is what is basically comes down. Making Sale throw as many pitches as possible, and not letting Mookie and JD hit with runners on base as much as possible should be the primary goals.
No matter what happens, I hope we go aggressive. Play with confidence and don't be afraid to take some risks, especially on the basepaths.

It's really going to be a good series.
If there is one category I think we are far superior to the BoSox is middle relief.
With that, I will counter that I hope we are patient, and get those pitch counts up quick.

I think Kimbrel is a better closer, but Osuna has certainly done good work so far.

If our offense, starting pitching, and middle relief do as expected, Kimbrell won't be much of a factor unless they bring him in after the 5th or 5th.

Kimbrel threw 50 pitches in 2 1/3 innings in the ALDS. Hope we see some fatigue.

They're playing their best ball right now just like we are

If you look starter by starter, I think we have the advantage on 2-4, with #1 (Sale vs. Verlander) a wash. Where we can really make hay, is if we can get to their pen say past the 5th. Offensively, its pretty close too.

If you can work around those guys pretty well, we should be in good shape. Course, that being said, outside of Altuve, Bregman, and Springer you never know what you're to get out of our team too (and Altuve isn't 100% right now). I do like our secondary tier of players and roleplayers better than their's though.

I think it goes to a Game 7. The last time we played a 100-win team it went seven postseason games, and this won't be different

If we somehow manage to take the first two in Boston, I think it ends in Houston. If we split; it goes to game 7. If we go down 0-2 in Boston.....I don't think we make it back to Boston.

Saw some facebook photos of the Astros boarding the plane for Boston.........Correa's back should be better. Daniella boarded with him so she can keep it massaged with heat applied.

I see where Hinch will announce the ALCS roster on Friday. Here is what I think we will see:
Cole Verlander Keuchel Morton McCullers McHugh Smith Pressley Osuna Sipp James
McCann Maldanado Gattis Gurriel Altuve Correa Bregman Springer Reddick Gonzalez White Marisnick Kemp Straw

I agree. I would also replace Harris with Smith.

I’ll be shocked if Rondon is on the ALCS roster. He didn’t exactly shut down Boston when he pitched against them this year and he didn’t do himself any favors with Hinch by not showing up for the team introduction at the first game of the ALDS.

I was thinking they'd add Rondon to help ease tensions.

All we can do is guess at this point what Hinch is going to do re: ALCS roster, but I think it will be the roster Olpapa posted with just one change: Gattis sits this series out so that Rondon can join the pen.
Rondon's main problem in September appeared to be general soreness from overwork. With a good 2 weeks' rest, he should be good to go. And he's certainly got the postseason experience in addition to the raw talent.
Gattis just hasn't had many chances to face live pitching recently so I don't see a chance for him to get hot. However in the WS Gattis probably makes it back to the roster because Hinch will need to pinch hit for the pitchers in the away games.

A quick look at that BoSox bullpen the Astros will try to work into. These are just stats over the last 30 days, to show who's hot and who's not. No surprise Kimbrel is pitching well, but really they only have about 6 guys pitching well in the pen, and even they have had inconsistent results. Definitely these guys are going to be tougher than the Indians, but they're hardly "lock-down".

If we knew would get the Rondon that was untouchable for awhile, I'd take him in a heartbeat. However, he closed the season with a terrible stretch. That is why he was left off and he has nobody to blame but himself.

Umpiring crew has been announced.
Joe West - chief of the crew Vic Carapazza, Mark Carlson, Chris Guccione, James Hoye and Mark Wegner will rotate duties.
Astros were 1-1 in the RS with West behind the plate 1-1 with Carapazza 1-0 with Carlson 2-0 with Hoye 2-1 with Wegner
That is a total record of 7-3 in games called by these umpires. At the very least, it shows the Astros can win with this crew.

Indians, post-loss, have been complaining that their front office doesn't do a very good job at analytics
From the NY Post:
"Speaking privately to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, the anonymous player said he believed the Astros were “far better prepared” for the series than the Indians were.
“He believed the scouting reports were more intricate and the attention to detail was more precise,” Lloyd wrote.
It showed. Houston’s offense exploded during the ALDS, scoring 21 runs over three games. Alex Bregman, Marwin Gonzalez and Tyler White all hit above .500 in the series. George Springer hit three home runs. Much of that damage came off the vaunted Indians pitching staff that struck out everyone during the regular season.
“Offensively, our hitters are uber-prepared,” Bregman said after Game 2. “We know which counts pitchers throw which pitches the most, the different percentages — there’s a bunch of stuff. Our organization does a good job of providing us with that information. But our team is a very focused team and we take pride in being prepared.” "
