I never said he wouldn’t be able to get that from someone. I just think it would be foolish to spend that much for an umpire and contact dependent pitcher. The results speak for themselves at this point though. Heck, he did a better job against Boston than Kershaw did last night. I don’t care what they say about Kershaw. I’d rather have Bumgarner on my team. That guy shows up and does his job no matter the pressure involved.

Already seeing articles about how Eovaldi should be Houston's target. I guess 3 months of good results in Boston trumps a mediocre rest of his career.
And, true to form, they're saying he should "give a hometown discount".

I hate the "gib us a diskount!!!" shit that Astros fans are always crying about, and agree with your assessment 2. It's hilarious how, on this forum, a dude's name will be randomly brought up in a conversation, and then the entire forum posts ad nauseum about how that player is THE GUY WE NEED!!!!1. This time, it's this Corbin guy. Before, it was Morton to the pen. Merrifield was the guy earlier this season. 1000s of other examples available.

True, the Pettitte/Clemens or even earlier with the Drabek/Swindell signings spoiled fans into thinking these hometown discounts are either easy or realistic. 2. Patrick Corbin is a better lefty for people to acquire, and the likes of him and Kershaw make Keuchel look pedestrian. I still wouldn’t mind Merrifield here, but that died when the Royals basically said he was off limits. 3. You forgot to mention J.T. Realmuto.

So many of these "deals" never take place. Remember how everyone on the board was talking about Yuli's brother coming to the Astros?

Folks were typing for weeks about him being the ideal addition to the roster the winter he was acquired. Since then it makes sense the forum turns into the NYSE with regard to who's the favorite FA/trade target of the moment

After the Bregman stuff, I doubt Eovaldi would want to come here.
And yeah, the discount stuff is mostly crap.

And yeah, the discount stuff is mostly crap. i doubt if a comment by Bregman on the internet would have anything to do with Eovaldi making a decision to come to Houston, He is from Alvin, idolizes Nolan Ryan, and would come home in a heartbeat if the offer was right. I thiink it could be wise to at least negotiate with him. All of the discount talk began when Biggio and Bagwell were said to have given a "home town discount" to Drayton McLane, the older miser who damn near ruined the franchise before selling it to Jim Crane. Since both Biggio and Bagwell were from the Northeast, I never understood why "home town discount" was mentioned. And yes, I could not stand McLane and all of his "make us a champion" bullshit he spewed while dumping the salaries of players who could have made us one.

And, true to form, they're saying he should "give a hometown discount". Eovaldi would be a good pitcher for the Stros....and look for the Astros to be in the market for Garrett Richards, he could be the next Charlie Morton...great Velo and spin rate....coming off an injury, and a chance to learn from Strom, makes sense for both sides in a 2 or 3 year deal...Wade Miley will be on their radar as well.... I think Luhnow will be in the market for reasonably priced pitchers whose talent is there, it just needs the right coaching (Strom).. If Morton is not re-signed, then I am hoping for Richards + either Evoaldi or Miley...

Morton should be the top free agent pitcher on Luhnow's list.

Richards, is a recovering TJ candidate, could miss a good portion of 2019....but he has great Velo and spin rate....if he will sign a team friendly 3 year deal, and with Strom as the pitching coach, I think it is a low risk/high reward situation.

We definitely don't need a player who "could miss a good portion of 2019". We already have plenty of those.

If we sign Morton to a two year deal with a vesting option for a third then we will not have to do something stupid to land another starter to take Keuchel’s place. Verlander, Cole, Morton, McHugh, and either Valdez, James, Perez, Armenteros, or Peacock should do just fine. So long as we upgrade our catcher and get another 800 ops bat.
