I think Tucker will be a stud. I would hate to see us trade him. Also, every player has to start playing sometime. I hope like hell he will take advantage of it.

But at the same time I had high hopes for Daryle Ward too. You never know if the prospects will be as good as advertised. I remember when we drafted Tucker some T.V. people were comparing him to Ted Williams. Man would that be nice???

Ugh. I just realized we're still paying Singleton $1 million over the next 3 years. What a waste. Really? I thought he gets one final payment of $500,000 this year and then that's it. Not sure what pot costs these days but it should last him a while.

about 5 more weeks till catchers report to ST.
If Jeter wants to move Realmuto he better get it going. At least JT wouldn't have a long drive ahead of him.

Your friend Voodoo and his "trayde thees 15 pleyers and let tkcur pley awl 3OF pisitions at teh sayme tyme" You need a Cape so you can be super mad? Funny thing is Bregman had his chance. He started every day. But you wont allow Tucker to do the Same. Free up the money from Reddick and use it on Verlander and/or Cole. Tisk tisk. I thought better of you Bortaz.

I was just looking at an Astros game from early in the 2016 season to see how this year's roster compares. Here was the opening day lineup: i.ibb.co/7SFHNDK/Screen-Shot-2019-01-10-at-7-59-36-AM.png The bench that day was Marisnick, Kratz, White, Duffy. Personally, I only had confidence in 5 of the starters on offense that day (the top 4 hitters plus Valbuena, who was coming off a 25-HR season) plus White on the bench (who had just won PCL Hitter of the Year in 2015 and subsequently mashed in spring training).

If no further trades were made, this is the OD offense I would put out there this year: Of that roster, I'm confident in 8 of the guys to produce significantly above the league average (let's say OPS+ of 105 or higher for the season): The first six hitters plus Chirinos, and also Diaz on the bench. BTW that 2019 OD lineup isn't a proposed hitting order, just a list of who I think should take the field to start the first game of the season. If Luhnow could add a quality bat like Castellanos, Martinez, or even Markakis/Pollock by OD, it would be really nice to think that on a given day all 9 spots in the lineup could be filled by players hitting significantly over the league average. Few lineups in history have been able to do that.

It's just to say the 2016 OD lineup had 4 obvious holes and a relatively weak bench.
This year I only see 2 holes in the OD lineup and a stronger bench. And there is still time to plug some holes.

Last year, Hinch was not big on letting the backup C serve as DH. For the obvious reason that if the starting C had to leave the game due to injury or ejection, the DH would move to the C position and then the pitcher would have to hit in the DH spot.
It's one reason I don't expect to see Chirinos, Stassi, or (hypothetically) Realmuto spending much time at DH this year.
Last year there was a little more wiggle room insofar as Gattis was always there as an emergency catcher. But this year, the emergency catcher is, I'm guessing, Tyler White. In 2016 it was said that White was getting a little bit of instruction at C, but I haven't heard anything about it since.
A guy like Castellanos might do well to get some catching skills. Because of his defensive limitations elsewhere, his value would increase if he were available off the bench as a third-string catcher. It's a situation that usually only arises for a few innings per season (if that) but when the need does arise, it's really essential to have a receiver back there so that the show can go on.

Does his "earning a chance" mean you take a position away from an established player and stick the rookie (who has earned jack shit IN THE MLB) in the spot, regardless of production? I think he has earned some of that established player's ABs based on said player's performance last year. Certainly not all though.

What I'm saying is they seem to like feeding them to the wolves. Well feed on Tucker full time RF. No one to cover up mistakes. He eats on his own no security blanket. Send Reddick packing. White is equal to Gurriel. So send him on to. Free the cash for the big guys next year. It's better to be free before you need it rather then when you need it You need to shut up about dealing Yuli........it ain't gonna happen.
