With all of the known drama removed from our payroll situation it now looks like the opening day number should be right at 159 million. That is a long way south of the luxury tax and still leaves a few places where talent could be acquired to firm up our team. But in the bigger scheme of things we have 11 of the top 200 prospects in baseball, no long term deals that appear to be dead money, and a guy calling the shots that has proven himself to be able to get what we need when we need it. So even though some folks have the Red Sox, Yankees, and the Dodgers rated over us, the smart money says we ain't chasing nobody. All things considered, let's play some ball. First spring game is next saturday versus the Nationals.

Martes, McCullers and Smith will be moved off of the 40 man once the season begins. Also I do not think that Kemp, Rodgers, and Reed will still be around come April.

I'll say this.
Myles Straw will beat out Jake Marisnick. Marisnick will be traded during spring training. They will try to highlight him alittle to get more value. Watch the Giants.
Hoping Kyle Tucker lites it up and Reddick digs himself a hole he cant get out of and they trade Ole Josh.
I think the Door is open to Bryce Harper on a 8yr deal to play 1B or DH not so much in the OF based off his not so good DEF the last couple years. Or his lackluster attempts to not sacrifice his body for the team.
I still see a Pitcher being added.
And there are at least two others beside Marisnick whom will be traded off. Its gonna depend on these two guys Named Corbin Martin and Forrest Whitley, on if those two guys get moved. Crossing fingers.
I would still watch Nick Castellanos and Seth Lugo.

so does the way it work .. someone either Yordan, Whitley or JBB gets added to the 40-man after ST? No one has to be added but having a slot allows us to add someone on without having to cut someone. I think they let Rodgers go so he has a chance somewhere else so that frees up two spots without any pain.

someone needs to be moved off the 25-man if another free agent is added. It's gonna be hard to trade Reddick when he's a part-timer making 8 figures. I don't see it happening

I agree with you on Straw and Marisnick and also the Giants are the most likely landing spot. I also like the idea of adding Harper if we can get a deal around Altuve's with a couple more years added on. That would free us up to also trade Gurriel. Marisnick and Gurriel could net us a couple of reasonably good prospects and allow us a little more flexibility in case we have to add a pitcher at the deadline. Man what an offense that would be if we did add Harper. That would allow us to be about 12 men deep at a plus 750 ops and 8 deep at over an 800 ops. That is scary good.

I don't think there is a minimum requirement for either the 25 man or 40 man rosters, but the 25 man roster has to be set before a deadline and even that could be short, but not long. At least that is my understanding.

Also, he has two years left on his deal instead of one so there’s almost no chance anyone will take him barring a salary relief trade.

Reddick's like Ethier on his 5-year extension with the Dodgers. He rode the bench for much of that time, but his contract made him untradeable
