Imagine being a fan and your team loses in the WS 3 times in a row. I know it's cool that they made it there, but damn, that must suck. Well if their owner would stop being such a cheapskate and spend a little money, maybe they'd be able to go all the way!

The guy we will miss is Morton I am not so sure about that. I remember a time when Morton couldn't get us out of the 5th inning without blowing up. And before he came to Houston, he wasn't ever a great pitcher. I think we need to consider the fact that his good performance in the last part of his time here might have been a fluke.

Or a product of our pitching philosophy. I agree with you. It was telling that a guy like Morton didn't even receive a QO. My fear is that Peacock and/or McHugh can't deliver and we have to go looking for pitching during the season.

The use and release of Morton highlights how great Luhnow is at buying low. He’s one of the best in the business. Morton, to his credit, is overpaid.

The guy we will miss is Morton I agree, if Morton is healthy/does not miss an extended period of time, Luhnow, and I am a big Luhnow supporter/fan, made a fecking huge blunder. I give mad respect to Morton, what he did in Game 7 was about the best thing I've ever seen for an Astro player. Unless we knew he would keep having shoulder issues, we screwed up in letting him go. He would be a #3 in our current rotation.

After a couple of starts if one of the three amigos that follow in behind Verlander and Cole is having issues my expectation is that James will be brought in, and if he does not right the ship then Valdez will be brought in, and if he does not right the ship then Whitley will be brought up and on it goes. We have so many options in the minors that by the time all of them are tried and even if all of them fail, ( an impossible sequence of events), we are at the trade deadline and we will pick up a new number 3.

I think we got as good as we could get from Morton and he is due for regression/health issues.
I think we're going to miss Keuchel's innings eating.
But, at the end of the day, it's our offense that needs to live up to expectations. We have 5 all-stars in our starting lineup that need to do what they can do. If that happens, we'll be great.

I heard* a guy on MLB radio this morning (didn't catch who it was) who said that Keuchel has been receiving offers, but has refused to budge from his initial demands in money and years, and won't accept a "pillow" contract (whatever that is)

As weird as it is for me to say this, I’d rather have Keuchel as a #3 than Morton. I’m only harsh with Keuchel because I expect more from him. Morton is a journeyman injury prone pitcher. Luhnow made the right call. No way would I pay $15 million a year to a guy like him with his age and injury history. Let’s just appreciate the good times and move on.

It's great that Morton got a 3-inning save in Game 7, but Peacock got one in Game 3. That deserves credit too

Sometimes players do that after a down year to try to re-establish their value, expecting a year of better performance will put them in position to negotiate a better deal after the season is over. Pillow contracts are generally at a higher rate than the AAV the player might be able to get on a multi-year contract.

I do not think he is going to get what he wants. He will probably get picked up at some point, but no one will offer him anything more than 2-3 years.

Padres and Phillies both win, but no hits from the combined $600+ million players.

To the Bills fan it would be a different story. Then again we Stros fan's have felt the pain. There's a really good ESPN 30 for 30 on the hard-luck Bills and their devoted fansI have NO SYMPATHY for a Bills team that overcame a 0-38 halftime deficit to beat my team.

The Tigers are leading the AL Central. I thought I'd post that since this will be the only time this season it will be true.

They just kept passing the ball and stopping the clock after each incompletion play after play. Dumb, dumb strategy.

They stopped pressuring with their front 7 and went into a prevent. The defensive coordinator was fired a few hours after the game concluded
