For next year Houston has 7 players (Verlander, Altuve, Pressly, Yuli, Reddick, Bregman and Brantley) for a total of 121.5 million. They control Springer, Osuna, Correa, McCuller, Diaz, Marisnick, Peacock, Devenski and Stassi. Those 9 players' salaries add up to around 37 million this year, will probably be north of 50 million next. So 16 players under control for ~ 171 million. Kemp, White, Valdez and James make about 2.5 combined, so probably 3 million next year. Twenty players, 174 million. The cap is 208 million next season, so Houston is 34 million under, but you still have to decide who you're going to retain and how much they'll make. The goners are possibly Joe Smith (8 million), Harris (4.2), Miley (4.5), McHugh (5.8) and Chirinos (5.75). So, the question becomes how do we massage the cap to keep Cole (if that's possible)? How do you fit Springer in long-term? Correa? Do they cut bait on (trade) Reddick, and plug in Tucker? Do they trade Yuli, who also has two arb years left after his contract runs out in '20. They're going to have to hit on some of the call-ups. Tucker, Alvarez, Whitley, etc. have to do well. This is what i was talking about all offseason. REDDICK AND Yuli costing around 20million for both. Sure they are doing good at the moment. But when you refuse to trade a player to get better TUCKER then he should be playing today in our OF. Not in the minors. If he cant hit ML pitching then why say he is untouchable? The only way we are gonna get hom to have a chance to play and see ML pitching is on the roster batting every day or every other day. He is doing nothing in the minors. So if the WRIGHT trade comes along that adds a young controllable player like Taillon of the Pirates would you deal Tucker for him or as a piece to get him and more? Marcus Stroman? How about Caleb Smith in Miami? Js ask yourself how are we gonna keep these guys under the Cap and still compete? You all ragged on me i was just looking forward into the future alittle bit. You get ragged on for butchering the English language, your asinine trade proposals, and the fact that you have no clue about player evaluations.......mostly for butchering the language.

Breaking. Collin McHugh is going on the 10-day injured list with right elbow discomfort. The Astros recalled Brady Rodgers I'm glad we have a chance to see Rodgers again. He pitched toward the end of the 2016 season, as a September call-up if I'm not mistaken. He's had a pretty good year at Round Rock, 3.22 ERA through 7 starts. Rodgers is not strikeout machine, but he's limited the HRs well and on a weaker team he's probably a #5 if not a #4 starter. Always nice to see a hometown product on the mound. This might be the first time the Astros have had two Houston-born-and-raised pitchers (Martin and Rodgers) on the staff at the same time. Can anyone recall another time that has happened?

Its very interesting on that decision. Its a 6yr 7m dollar deal? That diesnt sound very good over all. But again he could suck and just screw them outta that money.
But what if he is lights out?

Good grief! Don't you have the slightest clue on how excellent that situation is for him? It's a GREAT deal. He could have taken the $2M signing bonus from the draft. Then spent three or four years in the minors making chicken feed money. Then spent two or three years in the bigs making a half mill per year. That's where he'd be after 6 years in the US system, with about $3.5 million in earnings up to that point. Then he'd be spending the next three or four years in arbitration. Decent money but nothing like a free agent gets.
He'll enter MLB as a free agent at 25 y/o. Far earlier than he would have, if he had signed with the Braves.

I don't think that will have a huge impact on the draft because I doubt Japan (and Korea) will be signing a lot of talent from the US. But they just might take some of the cream off the top.
Time will tell.

I think it has the possibility of having an impact on the draft. But I also think Mlb will tighten the loophole somewhat in the near future.

But the money is big The guy you are trying to speak of, Max Scherzer, has an unique contract: signed in 2015, it was a 7 years/210M, but payment deferred of 14 years at $15M a year. ...so it really ends after the 2028 season....

There looking at him and others in our minor league system. Theory is Elias knows them and has problem been the reason they were drafted.
Givens seems to be the only trade part that would intice the Astros it seems
