Realistically, I wouldn't mind having Bumgarner depending, of course, on what SF wants in return. He's still only 29 years old. Two things put a wrench in the works: 1) he's sure to want a raise over his current $12M salary, which could create a tight squeeze when trying to extend some of our regular guys and 2) I do not believe in "clutch" players. Baseball is the hardest game to play well and with a large enough sample size, the numbers always tend toward the player's mean. Which means he's due for some massive regression. The guy has obviously done well in past post-seasons, which guarantees exactly nothing for any upcoming playoff games.

I dont think he has it anymore. He has digressed so badly as of late. I think we would waste prospects on a guy who might i mean might just be a number 5 on this ball club. I dont care about the past and what he did. He isnt doing it today or better yet the last two years. Meaning this yr and last

The guy has obviously done well in past post-seasons, which guarantees exactly nothing for any upcoming playoff games. Bumgarner should be seen strictly as a rental. Any player acquired at the deadline on an expiring contract is sure to test the FA market as there will be no Qualifying Offer attached.
The fact he's been to the big dance three times is definitely a plus. He wont be awestruck or have any jitters. He has a strong pedigree but his performance this year has been well below his career average. In fact it's right around league average. When it comes to rentals, the big question always is: what have you done lately. There's plenty of time between now and the deadline for him to get back on the rails. But barring that, he is far from a sure bet.
The Astros have $121M in commitments to 7 players for 2020. They have 8 players whose salaries are not in that equation since they're arb. They also have 7 slots unaccounted for with current players who are due for free agency. Only 4 current players who will still be pre-arb. Luhnow won't be able to field a team of this year's quality next year, simply by filling all the empty slots from the free agent market. Some of that must happen from players promoted from the farm.
Will Luhnow dip into the farm talent to trade for a SP before the deadline? Uncertain.

Absolutely. Which is why Whitley (and to a lesser extent, Martin) is such a determining factor. I don't think there's a chance we re-sign Cole. SP beyond this season is probably my biggest concern for the club.

SP beyond this season is probably my biggest concern for the club. I think Luhnow will probably go to the FA market for one SP this winter. But to keep the team competitive (and affordable within reason), he'll be dependent upon the farm. Fans tend to go all negative when a player is first brought up and doesn't hit the ground running. But as Archie Bunker would say, patience is a virgin.

I still want Bumgarner. If he doesn't do well on the mound, let him play for White. God knows Bumgarner has a better stick than White.

Lol. I think my assumtion is corret on who comes up next in Straw. I would have preferred Straw over Fisher. The guy we need is Alvarez but it will be June before we see him. I am just sick of White and am ready to dump Kemp, too. We have better options

This all wouldn’t be so bad if Bregman and Correa were helping Brantley and Reddick out more.

This all wouldn’t be so bad if Bregman and Correa were helping Brantley and Reddick out more. Bregman hitting around .260 and not producing consistently is a prpblem. Correa still strikes out too much with RISP

Yuli cant bat. RISP is a problem with him.

It seems like Brantley has shown Springer and Reddick and even Marisnick a thing or two, other then hitting into triple plays.
But Yuli is inconsistent as can be when guys are there ready to score. Its like easy out. Next.
White needs to go Kemp needs to go. Bring up Tucker and straw. Wait till june for Alveraz since your worried about 1 yr of arb.

Yuli cant bat. RISP is a problem with him. As i said before here we have another installment in your dump Yuli project......yes, he isn't producing now, but, je is more than capapble of hitting with RISP. He led the league last season.

Last season he still sucked at the end. Seriously this guy has to turn it around. Or he can be gone. Js In other news Jose Urias of the Marlins is gaining alot of trade interest. Wonder the price?

If and I say if Stubbs doesnt pan out with his chance to play in front of big guys.
I wonder what it would cost for Alfaro and Urena?
Not saying itll happen but just curious what would you guys be willing to offer for the pair?
