only two of the runs against Martin were earned, though, with the passed ball on Stassi.
For a rookie pitcher, 4 innings and 2 ER in isn't too shabby. If he had gotten a more accurate strike zone in the first inning, he probably would have finished 5 innings even with the passed ball.

If they have a 3 run lead after this inning it’s an accomplishment.

Not a good start by Martin but he’s learning. I’m glad Hinch finally threw the towel down.

That alone could’ve prevented a win for Martin.

I don’t know why Hinch threw James into the fire like that. Let’s hope it works out.

if a first and third, one-out situation, one run scores in 63% of cases and two runs score in 26% of cases.

now, the steal of 2B raises the chances of Boston scoring two runs in the inning to 39%.

a strikeout reduces the risk of Boston scoring at all to only 26%

James inherited a situation in which a run scores in 84% of cases, and didn't allow a run. It wasn't quite as pretty as Pressly might have done it, but he did his job.

this umpire has been all over the place with both teams. Strikes on Balls, Balls for Strikes Got to be hard on the Players yeah, at various times each time has both benefitted and been harmed by the poor strike calling. I'm all for keeping baseball traditions, but if you ask me it's time for the electronic strike zone. Time to make the game fairer for everyone concerned and let umpires concentrate on other things, like fair/foul, safe/out, etc.
