Good lord, guys. Wtf is our 3rd base coach doing? Could that really be on Pettis? I find it hard to believe that a backup catcher could have scored on that play. No I mean why isn't he keeping an on Jake at 2B.

something I never knew about Roy Campanella... the dude threw out 57% of attempted base stealers over his career. In some seasons he threw out up to 69%.
That's the type of catcher I wish the Astros could take to the postseason. Stassi is fine as a regular season backup to Chirinos. But the Astros could really use a stronger defensive catcher for those key games where you don't want something like happened today with the passed ball allowing an unearned run.

Anybody here a doctor? I have a bad sinus infection and have been taking medicine all week. Tonight my left eye has started to produce what looks like yellow puss. Easy award for most random WTF post in a GDT for 2019.

just checked on Brian McCann's numbers in Atlanta this season... he's off to a hot start, hitting .306 with OPS .855 over 72 AB's. I'd almost be surprised if he is still standing when the season wraps up. It didn't look to me like he had much left in him by the end of last year.

some of the interesting AL rivalries position-by-position are shaping up to be:
LF: Brantley (.954 OPS) vs Gallo (1.054) CF: Springer (1.067) vs Trout (1.020) SS: Polanco (1.006) vs Correa (.927) C: Chirinos (.928) vs Contreras (1.046) and Gary Sanchez (.943) and James McCann (.941)
As well as Reddick is doing in RF, there are still a few RF's hitting better than him this year: Choo from the Rangers, Betts from the BoSox, Haniger from Seattle, and by a smidgen, Avisail Garcia from the Rays. I'm kinda surprised at the years Choo and Gallo are having. Wouldn't be surprised to see Choo fall off a bit, but Gallo looks like he might have finally figured something out with regard to the K's.

Charlie Morton has held hitters to a .200 avg through 9 starts this season... ERA of 2.32 makes him the fifth best qualified starter in the AL so far this year. With JV being #1, of course, and Cole coming in around #7 or 8, depending on which stat you are looking at such as avg against, WHIP, etc.
on another random note, looks like the Stros are about to take over Seattle for the season HR lead. The Stros have 85 compared to Seattle's 87. But so many of those Mariner HR's are from the first several games of the season, when they were playing over their heads. That team has since settled into an OPS in the low .780s.
Upcoming opponents the White Sox are hitting for only a .730 team OPS and their pitching is rated at about 25th in MLB, with an ERA of 5.09. On paper, at least, the Stros should feast on their old 2005 WS nemesis.

Big first inning ended up winning the game for us. I am sure Martin had some butterflies pitcing at Fenway against the Red Sox. Great work by the pen........James had by far his best game. Dark side was we blew several scoring chances that could have put the game away and some BAD baserunning. We have won the series so beating Sale would be icing on the cake.

I’m getting tired of Josh James. He's been better lately. He was ourtanding tonight and I would not say Martin had a bad game just not as good as his first one. Take into consideration this is Fenway and the Red Sox

His ERA got messed up by some HRs he gave up early in the season, but he has kept his WHIP under 1.20 and the velocity that was missing back in March/April is there now. I suspect he will be a big weapon in the postseason pitching staff due to his stamina and velocity. Fangraphs sees James' ERA trending towards the 3.70s as the season goes on. Sounds about right to me.

Great road series win against a team that's been playing good ball. It's testament to the good start we've had two 10-game win streaks so far and it's not the end of May yet

My only guess is because Luhnow factored in Morton's susceptibility to injury, and it wasn't worth the risk....so far, Luhnow is wrong, but we are still just early into the season.

I would’ve given Morton the QO, but I definitely wouldn’t have gone multi-year like the Rays.

I think if we gave him the QO he would of took it because Tampa Bay would of never offer what they did if he had a QO attached to him.

Morrton would look good in our rotation. Luhnow did very little to strenthen the pitching in the offseason.

They're sure to regret those extra 2 years they signed Morton to.

There's definitely a science to the approach the GM uses on contract decisions with all the numbers they run. For some reason they thought Morton wouldn't bank 100 IP this season
