It was no surprise that the Angels retaliated for the injuries to Jonathan Lucroy by hitting Jake Marisnick with a pitch last night. The home plate umpire should have ejected Noe Ramirez for throwing at Marisnick instead of giving both sides a warning. The umpires were well aware of the situation between the teams. Hitting Marisnick below the waist would not have caused any reaction by the Astros.


When baseball teams decide to exact their own vengeance after MLB has suspended the offending player, they enter the wild, wild West of vigilante justice. Albert Pujols will no doubt remember the policy of his Cardinals' manager, Tony LaRussa. LaRussa would always retaliate if one of his players was hit around the head with a pitch. Ramirez threw his pitch behind the head of Marisnick and it hit him on the "a" in his last name. Throwing behind a player's head is worse than throwing at his head, because the natural reaction of the hitter is to move back from home plate and right into the pitch.


Sadly, because Ramirez did not properly execute the pitch and was not ejected, Pandora's box has been opened for more vigilante justice. MLB can defuse the situation somewhat by suspending Ramirez or fining him. If that doesn't happen, things could get ugly again. Hopefully that won't happen.

It'll be interesting to see what the Astros do. Will they take the high road and let the Ausmus and Ramirez suspension be the end of it or will they fire back. Hinch's comments seemed pretty clear that he was for one or the other, but not both.

and you get to celebrate this horrible ruling. If Trout had done the same to Chirinos  there would have been no fine or suspension.  Since it is a reserve like Jake, the CO has to act bad ass to try and make a point.....it's is gutless by the CO and total bullshit. No intent to injure on Jake's part and Lucroy was in the wrong place and the whole damn thing was created because he was in the baseline without the ball.  Wby was Ramirez not suspended for intentionally hitting Jake?  Agaoin more bullshit by the damn commissioner's office.

He may be right, outside of Jake's mom, Corch, some alleged teammates, no one really gives a s*** about Jake not playing.
