Luhnow and JD Martinez comes to mind. The guy is HOF bound, but he sure didn't play that way for us. If I remember correctly, I don't think too many of us had heartburn with the move at the time. Having a perennial WS caliber team, coupled wth a very strong farm does not bear well in being patient with marginal players. Kind of a unfortunate byproduct of success. I fully expect it to happen again. Our 41st guy that has to be released or traded is much better than the typical 41st guy.

Agreed.
JD, maybe the only glaring detraction to Jeff Luhnow's resume' here. And after 3 or 4 years of Yordan Alvarez (who we stole from the Dodgers), I think most will think that more than evened out the score.

I was disappointed when he was cut, but I didn’t lose sleep over it as Luhnow may have done. It happens but to say he didn’t get his chances is not fair for anyone to say. He had three seasons here to show what he could do and failed. That on-base percentage in 2013 was just ugly.

I think Luhnow learned a lesson from the JD release and from the Hader, Houser, Phillips and Santana for Gomez and Fiers at the deadline trade.

That would still be very good and have them finish 108-53. I figure on a letdown following our clinching the division, even though we will acknowledge the race for Home Field advantage. Since we are in a dead heat with the Yankees and Dodgers for best overall record, I don't expect a letdown because home field advantage in the AL playoffs and WS will be on the line.

To his credit, Luhnow stole Alvarez from the Dodgers for Fields and Sanchez and Biagini for Fisher. The deal for Fiers and Gomez was a bad deal but the othes offset it. One his worst moves lately was not re-signing Morton.

The shift worked last night on the final out. Have to give credit where credit is due.

One big difference I see now as opposed to 2015 is that there isn’t much, if any, info leaking to the media about Luhnow’s serious trade targets before he pulls the trigger on the deal. I remember that in 2015 there was a lot of info about Luhnow’s attempt to trade for Kimbrel getting out of the FO to the media in the weeks prior to the waiver deadline. Now very little info gets leaked about Luhnow’s real targets before a deal is made.
