What if both wins his next game? I still think the no-hitter gives Verlander an edge unless Cole's strikeouts are a deciding factor. If I knew winning the Cy Young would get Cole to re-sign with us, I'd try to bribe the media to vote for him. I think it's the opposite. Him winning the CYA would make it more difficult for us to sign him (as it will surely raise his price) You could be right. Winning it could make it more difficult. On the other hand, the fact that he realizes what being here has meant for him can play a part. Having Strom won't hurt us.

One we know for sure will be an Astro next year....the other, only the few, myself included, believe will be here 2020. Count me as one of the few who believes we keep him and I think we can get him for less than some think. Verlander money gets him. He knows that Strom has belped him get where he is and I think that, plus being on a winner with a good clubhouse helps sway him. Fact 1. Cole is a Boras client. We all know his history and ability to leverage owner vs. owner in a bidding war. If Cole hits the FA market, he will be the biggest pitching plumb out there, in maybe 5 years. I really have a bad feeling that this is going to turn into a mad feeding frenzy, with Cole netting near $40M annually. And I just don't see Luhnow biting at that price.

This may come down to which team is paying that amount. If it's in the NL then the Astros may say go ahead, but if it's the A's (doubtful) or Yanks then the Astros may try to match

Rest him under the guise of Playoff rotation prep?

Rest him under the guise of Playoff rotation prep? If we clinch home field before Saturday, I would limit Cole and Verlander to 5 innings and preferably not over 80 pitches.

I'm still backing Verlander for the Cy Young. I think those milestones and the no-hitter wins out.

I'm still backing Verlander for the Cy Young. I think those milestones and the no-hitter wins out. Here is the tale of the tape with comparison of major statistical categories...... It can't get any closer than this Stat. JV Cole ===== ====. ===== W's. 21 20 L's 6. 5 era 2.58 2.50 K's 300 326 WHIP .803 .890 WAR 7.7 7.4. (Though I hate WAR as a statistic)
One added intangible...... (Channeling my inner-OMB)
JV ruffled some feathers in the COB office earlier in the year by accusing (though correctly) the league of juicing the balls. Watch that shit storm re-ignite after the WS. Don't underestimate the diabolical tenacles of these SOB's (COB office). The COB office would like nothing better than to make it more difficult for us to sign Cole in free agency. How better to do that than to allow Cole to add a CYA to his resume'.
I say Cole wins it in a squeeker.

I say Cole wins it in a squeeker. I think Verlander gets it by a slim margin, but really hope some luck/collusion happens so co-mvps .. that would be awesome, plus I think somehow it might help Cole considering in staying here, more team feeling.
