I still don't think it will happen, but Bregman is actually starting to get close to Trout for the MVP race. The one thing Trout had over everybody else was his WAR, but that lead has dwindled and he has some sort of toe issue. Bregman:35 HR 103 RBI 111 Runs 34 Doubles 150 Hits 5 SB .299/.418/.584 1.002 OPS 161 OPS+ 7.4 WAR Trout:45 HR 104 RBI 110 Runs 27 Doubles 137 Hits 11 SB .291/.438/.645 1.083 OPS 183 OPS+ 8.1 WAR Obviously Trout still has superior offensive numbers, but not as much as he once did. Plus, Bregman deserves a little bit of extra consideration when you look at how he is playing two different positions. With 17 games to go, there's a chance. It looks like Mike has gotten the Albert syndrome. halohangout.com/2019/09/09/mike-trout-pinched-nerve-foot-undergoes-procedure-reduce-pain/Now he can run around the bases like Albert looking like his spikes are two sizes too small.

Last time Astros had a position player bat 1000+ OPS over a full season, with a qualified # at-bats was Lance Berkman in 2006

They're not going to give it to Bregman even if he finishes with a line of .320/50/125 because no coastal writer is going to give a middle America team the CY, ROY AND MVP. Yeah, BBWA will throw out that silly argument of "who is the most valuable to their team"

No one is bumping Saint Trout off his throne. It could be an upset. Trout's team being relatively poor, and him having health issues could factor in. Bregman isn't as far as off as he once was. He needs to finish really strong though.

He needs to finish really strong though. This was discussed on another thread, and a couple of things... (1) What's the chance of the BBWA giving Houston the entire trifecta? MVP, CY, ROY? Pretty close to zero (IMO) (2) The cabal of the east/west coast baseball illumati will also do their utmost to make sure (1) doesn't happen. (3) I can almost guarantee that even if Bregman exceeds Trout's stats, that the lame age old excuse will be ....... "Trout was more valuable to his team than Bregman was" That's the politcs of modern MLB.

Fans are getting smarter about the stats and such, and it's easier to find them. Sportswriters can't be blatantly biased or dumb with their selections without getting killed on social media and such. Otherwise Altuve wouldn't have won over Judge. You think the BBWA thinks giving a player an award on a losing team is better than a player on a team that already has the CY and ROY? I don't. DJ LeM will probably get more votes than he deserves though.

And Altuve's case it was an aberration, because he became a media darling because of his Mighty Mite persona. You are right about the impact of social media though. The blatant cases of bias are rarer, but when anything is close, you can count on a coastal slant in voting. Therefore, with JV a lock on the Cy, I see either Bregman or Alverez being a 2nd place sacrafical lamb. Writers aren't going to let the Astros sweep the major awards catergories. If it happens, I will be absolutely shocked.

He needs to finish really strong though. The MVP should come from a team that at least wins a division title. The Angels have been out of the race for a long time. They are currently 28 games behind the Astros. If Trout wins the MVP, it's a joke and shows bias in favor of teams in large media outlets. Bregman should win it in a cake walk. But, he won't because of the media.

To me, the MVP is the best player in the league, period. If he's the best player, he would be the most valuable to any team. Trout, right now, is the best player in the league and deserving of the award. But, there is still time for that to change. And I don't believe the Angels have that big of a market since they share with the Dodgers and Giants.

I hope so, then you look at the team that is really going to go after him. The Yankees are going to have to outbid him just looking at the State of NY, with the personal taxes in that hell hole. Plus the fake team chemistry, but as we have seen the last few seasons there is always a team coming out of nowhere that will be flashing the bucks.

I don't call Albert Pujols, Justin Upton, and Kole Calhoun "garbage". I have always thought the MVP should come from a winning team because MVP's lead their team to titles. Altuve deserved the MVP because he led the Astros to a division, league, and World Series championship. The Angels haven 't won a thing. If Trout was concerned with winning and not the money, he would not have signed a 12 year deal to remain with the losers he plays for,. He is called the "greatest player on the planet". I will agree with that when he wins something with his team. Bregman deserves the MVP......not Trout.

The Cy Young is for the top pitcher. The MVP should be the most productive player on a team that wins a title

There have been reports that Cole has told his agent he wants to stay with the Astros. Crane has shown that he will spend the money to get and keep top players as was evidenced when he OK'd trading for Verlander and Greinkel, and, when he agreed to extend Verlander for $33 million per year for two years. I think we can keep Cole if we give him a 5-year deal for $165 million which is what Verlander will make per season.

Of those guys you mentioned, only Calhoun is considered an above-average offensive player this year...and he is hitting at about the same level as Chirinos. Ohtani is a good hitter, but he isn't even that close to hitting as well as Gurriel, our 7th best hitter this year. And even if those guys you mentioned plus Ohtani WERE having great seasons, Trout can't pitch also. Their best pitcher died this year, and their second best pitcher has a 4.30 ERA. Trout could be twice as good as he is now, and that team still wouldn't win. That's unfair to say he isn't the MVP because of his team. As far as his new contract goes, he stayed with the franchise that drafted, promoted, and has supported him. He probably could have made that much money or more with somebody else if he chose to, but he stuck with his team. I'm not sure how he can be knocked for that. To me, if the season ended right now he should be the MVP. But it doesn't end right now, so Bregman has a chance to catch him.

My point is.....in my opinion....the MVP should come from a team that wins because of the player's production. Trout could hit 75 home runs and drive in 175 runs and the Angels would still not make the playoffs. Bregman is the most productive hitter on the team who will win the division and is a good bet to go to the WS and win it.

The MVP should be the most productive player on a team that wins a title Lorenzo Cain should've won the MVP in 2015 over Josh Donaldson? That's insane

If Cole re-signs here, it would be akin to Cliff Lee leaving Yankee $$$ on the table that one time so he could join the Phillies in free-agency
