The only way I see Cole coming back is if he wanted another crack at the World Series as he felt bad for stinking up game #1.

Folks, I’ve gotta tell you. No way will Cole be back with the Astros next season. It is going to take a 6-7 year deal with an AAV in the $35 million range to sign him. Crane/Luhnow are not going to (nor should they) invest that kind of money in an ace when they are already committed to JV and Greinke to the tune of a combined $60 million per year+/- while they have a group of position players who pad their numbers against the scrubs, but struggle to score runs against decent pitchers. Let the re-tooling begin. They're very hesitant to hand out big contracts, namely for a large amount of years. It was fun while it lasted. Goodbye, Gerrit.

I'd be wlling to do a tweek rebuild, if it meant getting the players needed to win a WS in a few years. This bunch we have now, struggled the entire post season. They believed their press that they were invincible.

Unfortunately, it’s at the very end.

Unfortunately, it’s at the very end. We were 25-22 in the regular season against all the teams that made the post season this year. Plus that 107 win season doesn't look so lofty when you take in account we beat Seattle 18 out of 19. Add a 3rd point, our schedule was so soft the final month and a half, it was a joke. And it was not just situational hitting, though our inability all year to leave men on 3rd with <2 outs drove me absolutely crazy. Another one? Think about how many times this year, we have given up big hits on an 0-2 count. Way way more than we should. This team sucked on fundementals, and it has come back to bite us in the ass in Octover.

The team’s main problem is it can’t shift on the fly. I don’t see a problem with adjusting your strategy to counter a difficult opponent. I just hate this vibe I get of “well, that’s just not how we do things here”. Okay, go get swept then. I’m sure the fans who paid $500+ for SRO tickets appreciate that philosophy.

Our team..., the poster child for analytics..., is getting it’s butt kicked by a team that is playing good fundamental old school baseball. I don’t like to see my team get its butt kicked, but I have to admit that it is refreshing to see a team playing good, smart, fundamental baseball. No dumbass base running (or pausing to admire a flyball that doesn’t leave the yard, rather than running); intentionally hitting the ball to the holes in the defense created by the opposing team’s shifts; stealing bases to get into scoring position (as opposed to getting thrown out attempting to steal when you are already in scoring position); sacrifice bunting to move runners into scoring position; driving in runners who are in scoring position with solid hits that don’t leave the yard, rather than striking out or grounding/popping out weakly trying to crush every pitch onto the railroad track beyond the outfield fence. Just good, fundamental, team baseball. Though we don’t often see that kind of baseball anymore, it still works.
