My father in law and I have been going to Lake Powell in Utah for the last thirty years. That lake is made from the Colorado River, the one that made the Grand Canyon not the one that goes through Austin, and the water is all snow melt. You can catch walleye, trout, small mouth bass, large mouth bass, crappie, strippers, cat fish, and sun fish. We have fished just about every foot of the 2200' of shoreline that the lake has. At 86 his body and mind are starting to fail him. This is going to be his last trip so I agreed to take him way back into the boonies and fish spots that we have not gone to in years. Along the way we will pick up a few other of the men in the family and their boats and by late next week this time we will have a true red neck floatilla. At the end of the trip we have a giant party planned for him that will have as many of the people that we have fished with over the years there as we can muster, along with a lot of the women in the family and we will have a hell of a party and fish fry.

Sounds like a great time. BTW... if you can ...confiscate all electronic devices, and only have them available for emergencies.
Couldn't have an "On Golden Pond" remake scripted any better.

there are very few original ideas left. The really cool thing about how this should unwind is that he is totally in the dark. He thinks it really is just him and me going. We pick up the second boat with my brother in law and his son day 2, his other son and the guy who built my father in law's house day 3. Day 5 we will find 2 other boats camped in a bay and then 4 more days before we pick anyone else up.
I bought two of those super high efficiency coolers that are supposed to keep ice for 10 days. We shall see how they work.

also there are only a couple of places along the way that even get cell phone service so no point in even bringing gizmos. that is of course except at the marinas.

It's been a long time, since I have gone somewhere where it so dark, that the night skies are an ocean of stars. I/m envious.

That sounds amazing. We're going to Rockport over the weekend in hopes that we will get to do some fishing. Our son and his family are still having their house repaired after Harvey. They're hoping to move back in within the next few weeks.

I know what you mean, Catfish. My family has several hundred acres northeast of Huntsville. At one time the place was 3,500 acres but it's considerably smaller now. I don't get out there much any more, but I used to love to be in the pasture at night and just look at the stars. You can't hear any traffic there and you can unplug and unwind (it's better in winter; no mosquitoes). The older I get, the more I'm into peace and quiet and the less I care about arguing with some moron who doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground. I've run into a lot of morons in my life.

This season run differential is incredible.
The Astros have scored nearly twice as many runs as their opponents.

Tomorrow the Astros will play their 56th game of the season. It's useful to compare where the Astros stand following that game to where some other famous teams were at the same point in the season. A good comp for the 2018 Astros may be the 2016 WS champion Cubs. After their 56th game of 2016, the following was written about them: "Chicago reached 40 wins in its 56th game of the season Monday night. It is the fastest team to the 40-win mark since the 2001 Seattle Mariners, who reached 40 wins in 52 games. These Cubs own a .714 winning percentage which puts them on pace to win 116 games this season. That win total would tie them for the most wins in baseball history with the 2001 Mariners and the 1906 Cubs. The Cubs have out-scored their opponents by a 143-run margin this year, a total which is more than double that of the second-best team in baseball, the Boston Red Sox, who have out-scored opponents by 69 runs. The 1939 Yankees hold the record for the highest run differential of all time (+411) and had a run differential of +164 through 56 games. Those Yankees won 106 games, 10 fewer wins than the current projection for the 2016 Cubs. On the mound, Chicago is the only team in the majors whose rotation (2.33 ERA) and pitching staff as a whole (2.60 ERA) boast a sub-3.00 ERA. Their numbers – especially in terms of pitching — are also historic. The rotation’s ERA is the lowest by any staff since the 1920 St. Louis Cardinals, whose rotation posted a 2.40 ERA." www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chicago-cubs-mlb-history-most-dominant-team-new-york-yankees-st-louis-cardinals-060716 The 2018 Astros pitching sounds a lot like the 2016 Cubs pitching, and run differential could be very close too. The Astros are on a pace to do something close to the 1939 Yankees season run differential of 411, but of course keeping up that pace will be very, very hard, and the odds are naturally against it.
