I know matchups will come into play when the roster is set for the ALDS. I’m thinking we are most likely going to face Oakland in the ALDS. With that in mind, here is the roster I would select if I had to submit my ALDS roster today:
Pitchers- Verlander Cole Greinke Harris James Osuna Peacock Pressly Smith Urquidy Abreu
Catchers- Chirinos Maldanado
Infielders- Yuli Altuve Correa Bregman Diaz Toro
Outfielders- Brantley Springer Reddick Tucker Straw
DH- Alvarez
No way would I carry Miley or Devo on a playoff roster..., especially against Oakland. Rondon is so inconsistent and when he is bad he is really bad. I know it is a very small sample, but both Urquidy and Abreu have been tough on the A’s and Abreu has been very tough on lefthanded batters. I would pick Tucker because he has earned it. I would pick Straw for his defensive versatility, but mostly for his game changing speed on the bases.
Who would be on your roster?

Middle relief is our achilles heel.

Agree with your suggestions, olpapa East Texas minds. God, how I miss them. I'd give a lot to be able to have a normal conversation with someone who understood what I said without me having to explain the context for it. East Texas is NOT the same as South Texas by any measure. Outside of my home, 100% of my conversations are with Mexicans, Filipinos, or Indians. And they just don't get good old fashioned country language.

Middle relief is our achilles heel. From the look of things Greinke could go from September 25 until October 7 between starts. Looking at his numbers at Baseball Reference, last season he really did well on 6+ days of rest. I hope that will be the case this year.

More so than the middle relief, they need to stress adding an extra run when they can rather then waiting for a big inning. There will be some big innings, I'm sure, but do whatever it takes to add to the lead even if that means things we didn't do during the regular season.

I’d like to see more (smart) aggression on the basepaths and more of a “get the run in at all costs” approach with RISP.

I hope that will be the case this year. I am confident that our top 3 starters have an advantage over the top 3 of any team we play. What concerns me is when we need a 4th starter. I think AJ goes with Miley and that should be a big concern. I don't want to get int o a battle of the bullpens with the Yankees iof we play them. I give the Twins a shot at beating them. If we have a one game lead in the won-loss column on the Yankees before Saturday's game, I would put a pitch limit on Verlander and the same on Cole in Sunday's game. Big thing is we need to win and have home field nailed down by Saturday.

We need to limit the DP's so we need to hit and run and attempt some steals......I don't see it happening, but, I would love to see it,

If Toro had not tanked recently, I think he had a shot at making the roster and one of Jake or Straw... probably Straw ..., would have been left off. Now I’m not sure Toro makes it even if Correa can’t go.

I couldn’t decide in my head if Tucker would make the playoff roster. I hope he does, it would be a great experience for him!

The one spot that there may be some question on though is Rondon. Personally I would prefer Abreu.

I have a hunch we add a reliever and drop a position player for the ALCS. I would consider Abreu over Rondon, but, I think we go with experience.

I would prefer Abreu over Rondon too. I just think Rondon will get the nod over Abreu. I hope I am wrong.

That's a good point. Abreu has looked really good. After Peacock’s and Abreu’s showings today, I’m wondering if Peacock might be left off the ALDS roster in favor of Abreu. AJ sure gave the hook to Peacock quickly. I’m not sure if Peacock is healthy.

AJ sure gave the hook to Peacock quickly. I’m not sure if Peacock is healthy. He’s been on the DL for an extended time a couple of times. I’m not sure they should treat him any differently from McHugh.

As I stated in another post, I still think this would be it:
I don't think Tucker makes it over Straw unfortunately, but if they want to bring in only 11 pitchers then he has a shot.
Hitters: Springer Altuve Bregman Brantley Alvarez Gurriel Correa Chironos Reddick Maldonado Diaz Marisnick Straw Pitchers: Verlander Cole Greinke Miley Peacock Smith Harris Osuna Pressly James Rondon Urquidy
