Unless they make a trade, I see James and McCullers splitting up one of the rotation spots. Peacock will have one, and they’ll just figure out the last spot. Hopefully, it’s Whitley’s to earn. I can’t imagine them finding an infielder to mitigate the loss of trading Correa so I’m guessing he stays. It’ll possibly and maybe probably be a lackluster offseason. I’m hoping they extend Springer and possibly re-sign Harris, but I think the fans should prepare their goodbyes for the latter and enjoy a final summer of George before he puts on his North Face and heads to New England. Don't forget about Urquidy.

The more I look into Urquidy the more I like him (outside of the fact that he was very good during the season and great during the postseason). The guy has a history of very good control at all levels.

I don't want another season of Correa's vacations.

I am surprised they haven't signed or traded for pitching. The guys on mlb network seem to think they need to sign Keuchel. As long as we don't sign him, I don't care where he goes.

I don't want another season of Correa's vacations. Of all the guys competing for a spot in the rotation, Urquidy has earned top position on that list. He could lose his spot even if he isn't 'horrible' but others would have to be significantly better in ST to displace him. JMO.

I think he proved enough last year (especially in the postseason) that he has a spot virtually guaranteed unless he gets hurt.

Sounds like the White Sox are about to get Gio. If they get him for $3 million or less I'll be disappointed.

Brewers sign Smoak. I'm surprised he got a deal like that. 1-year $4 million with 2nd year option or $1 million buyout. Essentially at least $5 million for a season of a mediocre OBP no defense power hitter who has only topped 30 HRs one season...

A one-year deal for a 28 year old starting pitcher who made 33 starts last season with a 119 ERA+? He hasn't thrown less than 174 innings since 2012. Wow.

I get it, but you still have to look at the age and the body of work. His walk rate has been a little high the last couple seasons, but he is still in his prime and healthy. I'm very surprised some rebuilding team like the White Sox or Marlins wouldn't look at him as a good innings eater to pair with their young pitching staffs for a few years. This spells doom for Keuchel, imo.

MLB's depth chart for the rotation: 1. J. Verlander 2. Z. Greinke 3. L. McCullers Jr. 4. J. Urquidy 5. F. Valdez 6. R. Armenteros 7. F. Martes (Note: This list isn't officially submitted by the Astros) Other names worth mentioning: Brad Peacock Josh James Forrest Whitley (Not on the 40) Considering his struggles, it's not certain Whitley will even get an invite to ST. But he did pitch well in the Arizona Fall League, so maybe ... Peacock will be in the pen unless he gets the nod for a spot in the rotation. I don't know if James has options left where he could go back to the minors. McCullers must be in the pen if not in the rotation. No options left. Valdez, Armenteros, and Martes are all pitching in the Dominican league this winter. So far, Valdez and Armenteros have pitched well. Martes ... not-to-much.
There's already competition for rotation spots even if Luhnow doesn't make a purchase or add a minor leaguer to the roster.

The Braves could have kept him for one more year @ $12M, but elected to pay him a million to just go away. So basically they were saying he wasn't even worth $11M to have him for a year. That should tell you all you need to know.
