Chirinos headed back to the Rangers. 2020 is ending up going to be a significantly different team than 2019.

I think it is a pretty decent loss...but the Astros are stuck in limbo right now. For the time being, it just another escape pod for a player that was apart of possibly the best Astros team ever.

He had a career year last season if you look at his all-around performance but he really really tailed off as the season progressed. We likely lost out on some offense, but we improved on defense and Maldonado was half the cost. A catcher of his age and concussion history is playing on borrowed time, imo.

I am still of the opinion that Reddick and a prospect goes somewhere for a minor pitching prospect and that we sign another innings eater before the season begins.

Outside of maybe convincing Cole to stay (doubtful), that was always really the best case (and realistic) scenario for this offseason. Getting Maldonado and Smith for fairly cheap is almost a bonus to me.

Rondon going to the D-Backs on a 1-year deal.

I wonder if McHugh is healthy and what kind of interest he is generating... He could potentially be a really cheap add. The guy was money out of the bullpen. (And a good starter before the health issues.)

Although I expect Stubbs to likely start the year in AAA with Garneau on board. Unless they carry Stubbs as the 26th man. If he can hit well in ST, I bet they find a way to keep him on if they're really trying him out at some other positions as well.

Barring some unforeseen injury issue (or trade) involving one of the regulars, I’m thinking the 26th roster spot will come down to a choice between Straw and Abraham Toro. Just my opinion.

What's the Astros record over the last 3 years? 311 and 185. How did we ever get 311? Look Baseball is a Simple Game You position the camera You bang the trash can You send electronic buzz to the hitter Now Spring Training starts Feb 22nd!

I agree, pay that man his money Extend Springer at all costs. Whitley will be just fine.... Springer is worth as much or more than Altuve.

Extend Springer at all costs. Whitley will be just fine.... Springer is worth as much or more than Altuve. If there money crunching Springer is the person who would be gone. Of he infact would want between 25 and 35 million. If this is true, then you have to acompdate a chance you can trade him and try and get something. Im not saying just let him walk, im not saying dont tey and sign him. But there will be a roster crunch eventually. After 2021 there will be like 50million comming off the books in Verlander and Grienke. So with that being said you would need to weather the storm. But let say we are in bad shape at the deadline. You have to consider moving him and some others for some good prospects. Brantley Yuli and Springer possibly even Grienke. My thing is if you love Springer you pay him what ever to keep him. But if you are a GM trying to keep your job and not be in Cap pergatory you have to finagle his deal and not go over board. We dont want another A.J. Polluck contract out there. With that being said a 3yr deal would suffice. I wouldnt push for more years. I wouldnt make him stay in CF either. He risk his body alot on plays. A COF postion would be in his future.

But your underestimation of the value that Springer brings to this franchise brings me that conclusion.

No top performer, star player is going to accept a 3-year deal in what is likely their only (or best, at least) chance to cash in on free agency.
