The Tigers are taking their role as a spoiler team seriesly. Since the break they're 5 wins over .500
More recently they took two of three from the Rays and both games of the two-game series with Milwaukee. Now it's off to Tampa to face the Rays on their abortion of a field for four games.

It's getting better all the time.

Now it's off to Tampa to face the Rays on their abortion of a field for four games. The Tigers split the four-game series against the Rays, losing the first two, then winning the last pair. Game two was a heartbreaker. The Tigers had a three run lead going into the bottom of the ninth. The Rays tied it up and eventually won it in the tenth. The Tigers won the first of a three game series with the White Sox last night. But the White Sox have had our number all season. If perchance we win this series, that would be an impressive achievement.

thomasj13, JV pitched a whole 6 innings in 2020 and zero innings in 2021. He knows he'll have to sign cheap for a year just to re-establish his value. I reckon he'll do that with the Astros ... if they want him. JMO.

From another thread:On a non-Astros related note... I’m pulling for AJ and your Tigers to finish at .500 or better. They need to go 7-3 vs the ChiSox, Royals and Twins. Can they do it? Here we are few days later. The Tigers are now 75-81. Mathematically possible to finish at .500 but winning all of the final six games seems highly unlikely.

You should have a fun offseason. It could definitely become interesting. Lots of depth currently on the roster and a low payroll. Al Avila has been alluding to adding an impact player or two. Wazzat mean? Dunno yet.

Been gone, but thought of you when the Tigers hired Hinch.
How did the DET faithful handle the taint?

I think most Tigers fans had the same attitude I did. Whatever happened, Hinch served his year suspension then put the past in the rearview mirror. I think he's a great fit for the situation the organization is in. Transition from the rebuild to soon being a legit contender. Even though we ended the season below .500, most of the losses came early in the year. We're 7 games over .500 for all games from May 8 through the end of the season. And we fared well against contending teams.
I like the way he has no fear of being aggressive with the baserunning or moving the pieces around on defense or in the batting order. I like him ... a LOT. I also like the bold move the Tigers made, hiring a pitching coach who had never coached above the collegiate level. I sincerely believe Chris Fetter will establish himself as an elite pitching coach in MLB. Time will tell.

In retrospect the tandem of Luhnow and Hinch ha put together a 5-8 year juggernaunt of a team that we are still enjoying the furits of. What we have now is an awful downgrade, and honestly had and still feel that Dust Bin Baker is the worst manager in MLB. I have a sad suspucion that our teams fortunes are going to be reversed in a few short years.

What we have now is an awful downgrade, and honestly had and still feel that Dust Bin Baker is the worst manager in MLB. I have a sad suspucion that our teams fortunes are going to be reversed in a few short years. Luhnow pretty much painted the Astros in a corner regarding salaries. Most of the big money being paid right now was was put into motion by him. Expensive and declining Greinke ... Luhnow trade. Two year extension of JV at $33 million per (and he's been injured almost the entire time) ... Luhnow deal. High salaries to Altuve and Bregman (I wouldn't really complain about them) ... Luhnow deal. Click didn't have a lot of budget left to work with when he took over the reigns. Don't like the Odorizzi deal? Okay, hang that one squarely on Click. Regarding trading away prospects for relievers, that's somewhat on Click. But he didn't really have the budget to buy free agents to fill that need last winter.
Baseball tends to be cyclical. One way to (affordably) build is through the draft and the most successful teams each year are at the bottom of the picking order the following June. The Astros were further penalized because of the scandal. That's not on click. Another way to build is to cash in expiring contracts on good players at the deadline to get prospects who are expected to perform well in the future. Contending teams tend to be on the wrong side of that, regarding building for the future. It's not impossible for a team to have an extended time as a contender. But it becomes increasingly difficult, with each year a team spends at the top.

And the Number One rated offense for most of the season? A brief and respectful response (1) IMO- 95% of that record was because of the building of the team that occured while this f'er was on his porch chomping toothpicks. Hard for a team not to be top tier with names like Altuve, Bregaman, Brantley, Tucker, Alvarez, Correa, and Gurriel. (2) One might also respond the offensive accomplishment occured (plus see No.1) despite Dustbag. And if we invoking stats, seems I read that our staff ranks 9th or 10th of 10 among the post season sect this year. Let's see how this translates once we are not playing an American Leage Central opponent. (3) Then there is the intangible of what I call the Kerry Wood/Mark Prior factor where Crusty ruins potential HOF'er careers with his idiotic management of pitchers. Of course I haven't been privy to this year's damage. But from my vantage point and watching him 30 years, I am guessing he is too stupid to change his tactics. (4) And the clubhouse? Yeah, wearing those pro-BLM t-shirts at the Pressers sure didn't go unnoticed. (5) And last.... if you really want to root for an Astros WS win this year? Maybe it will give him reason to retire. Baker has a history of taking talented teams and choking when it mattered most. The 2003 Bartman Flub Farce is just the most famous of the Baker tradition of tracheal asphyxiation. Before he came here he had a 23-32 post season record despite many times being given the horses ot get the job done. We can't say we weren't warned.
