6-6
A good series against Oakland could do a lot for the standings and for their confidence. We're scoring the runs we need and we're mostly getting the pitching we need, but we're having a hard time doing it together. And, even though I don't care for Baker much, he's not the one making them inconsistent. This was always going to be a challenging year for the Astros, and everything needed to go exactly right for them to get back to the WS. It's obviously not going exactly right. But, they still have a chance to be successful and the postseason will be wide open if they can just get there.

Dusty was hired because he had experience and was well-respected throughout the major leagues. Crane thought we needed a calming, stabling influence due to the sign-stealing scandal. There were better options available, and, I would have preferred another manager, preferably one with ties to the Astros organization. Biggio had no major league managing or coaching experience. I doubt if Biggio, Bagwell, or Berkman would have been interested. If we needed experience with a proven record, I would have gone after Bruce Bochy if he would come here. If not Bochy, go for Ned Yost. I like Brad Ausmus, but, he has had no success mostly from managing terrible teams in the Tigers and Angels. I think he would do well with the Astros. I also like former catchers as managers. The knock on Baker is his mishandling of pitchers and we are seeing that first-hand. His questionable pitching moves have cost us two or three wins already. I realize he has a young pen of mostly guys with no major league experience. The worst of the lot is Cy Snneed, who we saw last year when he was terrible. Baker brought him in after Blelak gave us 5 shutout innings and Sneed blew the lead before Baker could get him out of the game. Blake Taylor came in and cleaned up Sneed's mess and then Scrubb retired all four hitters he faced on a minimum number of pitches. Bregman gives us the lead with a two run homer and Baker blows that by bringing Pressly in to close when Ryan had pitched one third of an inning all season and had pitched none in over a week. No way could Prewssly be expected to be sharp in that situation. Pressly should be worked back in when the game isn't on the line before being expected to close. Scrubb was the better option to pitch the 9th.
I don't understand why Crane was so quick to extend Baker's contract. He is going to mismanage pitchers like he always has. I agree that having so many injuries to pitchers is the main problem right now and Dusty had nothing to do with the injurie. Those were mainly caused by not going through their normal spring training work and having to have a "summer camp" instead. This is a strange season for several reaaons and probably won't turn out llke we had hoped, especially if Verlander can't come back.

We are seeing what Correa can do when healthy. He is one of the top players in baseball when healthy......Let's hope it continues.

I would have had Straw leading off instead of Tucker. Baker is wearing Maldonado out.......he needs a day off,

The A's have more cutouts in the seats than the normal number of live fans at their games......and Zack sits with them.

Give me your opinion here, Saint. I am thinking about letting my 11 year old home school. I am scared of him contracting the virus and spreading it to my parents. Thoughts?

For some reason, Semien is the best GIDP guy to get because he isn’t a strictly pull hitter and hits hard enough grounders.

I think kids need to go to school. Socially distance him from your parents if you're concerned. My 6yo is going back. I think a few months of real school is more important than a few months of missing family in person. (Unless there are some type of special circumstances with the family.) I guess the main question is how good is your kid at self-learning and doing the virtual stuff?

All Straw has going for him is speed......he is weak with the bat and a weak defender.

All Straw has going for him is speed......he is weak with the bat and a weak defender. He doesn't get enough consistent playing time to really see what he can do.
